Hydraulic steering question

I have been told that hydraulic steering should be "burped" to get air out. This is done by turning the when until it clicks one direction then the other. You really have to turn it HARD to get it done. Has anybody heard this before?

Yes, the system should be purged. I don't know what you mean by 'clicks'. It should not be hard to turn.
Are you installing the hydraulic steering yourself without instructions?

The steering is already installed. I just bought the boat.

Is it not working correctly or are you just wondering?
The best way to purge is at a dealer that uses a pressure purge.

The steering is working just fine, just wondering if anyone else had been told this.
