CFP BOAT RAMP

FYI...With the lower water levels most of you know that putting in at CFP is quite hazardous to say the least. We need a fix to the problem at what is the most highly used ramp in Hamilton county. Please take the time to call the county division of parks and recreation to complain about the ramp and beg for a remedy. As I understand it the more complaints they get the sooner the fix. Here's the number...423-842-0177. A very nice lady, Darlene ,will probably answer the call and pass it on to the man in charge. Again, please take the time to make the call to get the problem fixed.</p>

The county is putting a lot of money into the campground there this winter, upgrading the electrical, putting in new lots, and converting the tent area to small RV lots. The campground is their money maker. I'm not sure the ramp, which really isn't that bad, is at the top of their priority list. I've never had a problem there and I've seen many other experienced boaters in and out with no problem. Just my 2 cents

I appreciate your input but try launching and loading your boat now. Summer pool levels aren't a problem...its when TVA drops the lake to winter levels that we start seeing the end of the ramp. Please just make a call.

I launch quite a bit there in the winter, was there last Friday and will be there today.

If you use the wrong side of the ramp with a long trailer you'll find out real quick!

They'll never do anything its too good of a ramp the rest of the year. If tva would just leave the water a little higher it would be fine. There's no real reason for it to ever get below 676.5.

If you back your trailer in where it should be and ease the boat onto it those holes wouldn't be there but most people are just going to gun it up onto the trailer and the wash out from that is the main reason for the holes at the end. We could all pitch in a little cash and pay to have a big slab of concrete slid down to the end of the ramp, a couple of bucks from everybody that puts in there should do it... emoGrouphug

I killed a prop on the hump about 5 or so feet from the end of the concrete while putting in yesterday. It is hard to load or unload when levels are at 676. The level out to the end of the docks is now 2 feet or less so hopefully someone will do something. Props and boat bottoms aren't cheap!!!!!!!

Looks like the ramp at Chic dam is gonna be the only thing left soon and I'm not really sure about IT!!! Why is TVA dropping the water so much this year? Today its almost 7 ft below summer pool. It seems to me that in years past 6 ft was most it ever got from summer pool of 683.

One of the reasons for the extra low level is the ramp work taking place at HBSP.. They needed to drop the level a little extra this year to facilitate the repairs to that ramp.. Its all just a little inconvenience for a short period and before we all know it the temps will be back in the 70s and we will be talking about where the fish are bedding!! Relax and enjoy life do sweat the small stuff.. Well unless you make your living bass fishing!

Put in at CFP today. Unloading was easy but put a small nick on prop while idling to trailer during loading. Apparently there is a rock pile on the southern most lane. I cheated a little towards center but still had issues. First time I've ever had to winch the boat on trailer and found out how weak my bad shoulder is. The ramp will work but I'll back trailer in a little deeper next time and not even think about driving it all the way on the trailer, unless I'm shown the sweet spot. boat is 21.5' with dual axle trailer. The water level was 676.35

I called the Parks Director on the 19th then again on the 22nd. Didn't catch him in either time but left a message to please return my call. To my surprise I got a return call just after 8 am on the 24th, Wednesday. He was super nice, his name is Ron Priddy, saying that he has had many calls about the hump just off the end of the concrete of the CFP ramp. He says that they do not have a loader or anything that will reach the problem hump to remove it or level it out. I suggested that he contact the City or maybe some other division of Hamilton County to borrow a piece of equipment to cure the problem. He said that he would try but didn't sound like he thought it would do much good. Soooo, if anyone on the forum has a "BIG" loader or a trackhoe with a long arm you might give Ron a call, (842-0177) and offer to help. It would help us all and looks like TVA is going to keep the level very low for a while so we need the help :(
