Trim Tab came off

I have an 05 Vmax 150 hp with hydraulic steering. Yesterday the trim tab came off. Not sure how, just last week I looked at it a considered removing so I know it was on tight or at least stuck. Should I get another or at least a blank to fill in the hole?

Replace. Broke mine and I could feel the torque when turning one side vs the other with hydraulic steering. When set right, steering effort is about equal to both directions.

Be sure to use red loctite- 242. 1st, be sure its adjusted to relieve torque (wheel pull), at wide open throttle. then scribe a mark off the end of the tab to the plate. Remove the bolt then loctite and tighten. The scribe mark will help you line up a new tab if you loose one again. I use a flat anode plate on my Merc 225 with Hydraulic steering. If your engine height is correct, you should have little to no torque.
