CFF no. 5 DATE CHANGE and Rant!

The CFF Tournament no. 5 scheduled for May 20th was voted on and changed by the Tournament Committee and then announced at the weigh in of CFF no. 4. After about two weeks of discussion it was decided that the tournament should be moved simply because of the shear number of other and lager tournaments scheduled for that same weekend. The Big Bass Splash, the Home Builders Tournament, and Guys and Dolls. The decision was not for the reason to accommodate CFF participants that wanted to fish any of these events. We did not want to move to May 6th for two reasons. One, we would have tournaments on back to back weekends. Secondly, the Costa Tournament and the Sportsman's Warehouse Dream Tournament were also schedule for that weekend. Then no one wanted to move to the 27th which is Memorial Day Weekend because of the anticipated added boat traffic and it would also would be conflicting with many others holiday plans. May the 13th was the only other Saturday to choose from and also had less tournaments scheduled. The only one we were aware of at the time on the 13th was the CBA. Then we found out later that the Tri State Club was also scheduled on the 13th. We have several anglers that fish with that club too. The committee has always made attempts to schedule around and away from other tournaments. Especially the CBA. We have never changed a tournament to accommodate any individuals. We do try to schedule the CFF dates around the larger tournaments to avoid the anticipated boat traffic and to make those dates available to many of you to fish those events. We usually only change a date or lake or ramp to avoid other tournaments and traffic congestion. However there are so many tournaments that it is virtually impossible to schedule around and dodge them all. And there are times that you are unaware of a tournament until the last minute so to speak. There will always be a conflicting date with someone somewhere. If you are lucky enough to be fishing more than one tournament trail and find you have them both scheduled on the same date then you simply have to choose which one you want to fish. That is your individual decision to make. No matter how hard we try, you cannot please everyone. That is just impossible. Being on the Tournament Committee is a thankless job to say the least. The members pay their entry fee just like everyone else. We do not get to fish free or enjoy any other perks. There is a lot of work, planning and involvement that most of you are totally unaware of. Through the year members discuss and vote on a number of things that we think is for the betterment of the CFF group. The main reason we lose committee members is they get tired of dealing with the complaining. We try to make the best decision for ALL participants of the CFF Trail on each and every issue. It is a process called voting and it takes a majority vote to rule and make a decision. Each member has only one vote to cast. Members also get the opportunity to hear all the gripes and complaints about how things should be handled or changed by a number of people that will not work on the committee themselves yet they are eagerly all to happy to share with you there opinions on just how things should be done. What I would suggest for them in a very nice way is to start up the Perfect World Bass Tour. Then they can select the dates, the lakes, the ramps, the blast off and weigh in times and do whatever they so choose. Then everything would be great and they would have no complaints! But yes, in the past we have had some bad information concerning other tournaments and we have made a bad choice. We admit that we have made bad decisions before and we try learn form that and correct it as to not make the same mistake again. We made a bad decision on choosing the Serindino Ramp Saturday. We were trying to stay away from the other ramps and have that one to ourselves but we under estimated how many participants would show up and it was a mess. And so we will not go back there again. We do listen to your opinions and try make decisions based what best accommodates everyone. Again we do not attempt to accommodate just a chosen few as has been suggested. Thank you to all the CFF Tournament Trail participants and for reading my explanation, comments and personal rant. I hope to see you all on may 13th at the Harrison Bay State Park ramp!

So far, the decisions that I have been a part of have been made with the CFF tournament trail in mind, not a single person, which is precisely the reason the tournament last year want changed, because only 1 person was pushing for it and the move would have affected others. At some point, individuals are going to have to decide if the CFF trail is important enough to miss tournaments with other clubs or not.

I agree, we have not made a single decision based on the needs on any one individual, we have tried to adapt to the tournament environment of the lake , and the ramps.I know for myself i am only interested in promoting the CFF and what it stands for. I for one have truly enjoyed being on the TX committee and meeting everyone. As Earl said we have made some bad decisions however please remember we are trying to make what we feel is the best decision over all. Earl, thank you for your comments and rant.

Not anything wrong with the ramp this weekend. People just didn't think. Just launch and get ready so everyone can get in and go fish on time! Just don't wait until time go and then try to launch!!!

well said brother earl well said.and yes i have a mgr. that i can change dates now if need be.(given enough notice)

This is only my second year fishing with you guys and I love it. I have never held or hosted fishing tournaments but I run a 5,000 member wrestling league for youth for the entire state and have also ran multiple football and baseball organizations over the last 20 years. You hit the nail on the head when you said "you cant please everyone". No matter what you decide its going to conflict with someone's schedule . We host anywhere from 5-8 wrestling tournaments all across the state every single weekend for 5 months and we run into the same conflicts. What I have learned is to be transparent, state your reasoning so everyone understands why decisions are made and always do what's best for the majority because you cant please everyone. You guys have a thankless job as you are never going to be able to please everyone but I for one appreciate it tremendously. As long as you do what's best for the majority that's all that can be expected.
In regards to this past weekend... I think the ramp was big enough but like others have stated it was that everyone parked in the way instead of putting their boats in. Then there is the issue of boats being tied up for too long in the way, This happened at the River park as well with not only the boat on the end of the dock blocking people from picking up their partners but the back end was sticking out 6-8 ft blocking the ramp making it a single ramp. This past weekend if the boat tied up had been pulled further forward then the end of the dock would have been more accessible. There were boats at the dock upon our return for weigh ins far too long as well this weekend which slowed the process down. I know you guys on the tournament committee are probably spread very thin but I think it might be a good idea to have someone in charge of loading and unloading (directing traffic, monitoring the loading dock, offering suggestions, etc.). If you don't have enough people I'm sure we would all volunteer to take turns doing so. I'm more than happy to help out if needed. Also, as members of the Cff we need to be more helpful with each other and maybe offer to help people load and unload their boats if their partners aren't comfortable enough to do so. There have been several delays due to one partner having to do everything. This would help expedite the whole process.

Well I am going to gripe.... Not really.... I don't have any room to gripe. I haven't fished in one of these all year due to schedule conflicts with the High School boat Capitan stuff along with the BFLs I have tried to fish... I decided NOT to fish the next Choo Choo BFL and fish the CFF instead... With the date change I wont be able to do that... My daughter graduates college on the 13th at Ole Miss... I will be there all weekend. So... with all that said... I am just a donor anyway... you guys will not get my money after all.

What else is on the 20th I can enter?

Come on Tim! I still don't agree and if that is whining then I am. But even I would not stoop so low as to call what Earl does, "God work" emoTskTsk That is just out there. Or is that a typo and you meant to say, "good work"? emoGoofy Jmax

Well said Earl I Was on the Committee for a Couple of Years and What Earl Said is Very True All the Committee Members Have a Vote and I Truly Believe They Vote to Ensure Everyone Has a Good Time and Everything is Done Fairly. I Have Fished Other TX out of Seridino and Have not Had that Problem we Had Sat. Its Just One of those Things we Deal with day to day on the Chic with all the Jetskis and Pontoons Plus all the big boats Try to Launch out of Harrison bay on a Saturday Long Lines of People trying to unload or Load. Thanks to the CFF Committee

Totally agree Earl. I've wanted to fish more of them this year, but have had conflicts....of course that is not anyone else's issue but mine. Fishnvol and I put on a series of tournaments around 10 years ago and you are correct, there is no way to please everyone. As soon as a change is made for a few people it will turn out that those few people do something else any way. Heck, we used to have all the rules, etc posted up front and at sign in, sure enough, people would complain after the fact. Hopefully, Mason and I will be able to make this one...after CFF 1 that 11 year old joker thinks he's KVD!

I think that Tim's comment about God's work was a telephone typo. I know that my old Bible says that we are to have dominion over all the creatures of the earth but I'm not real sure that the fish have read that or have a complete understanding and grasp of that! However at the next tournament maybe just before blast off we can all huddle up and sing a couple verses of "Shall We Gather at the River" just for good measure and then at the weigh in we can pass around a collection plate!? One last thing just so everyone knows for the record, when the Committee voted on this date change I voted for May 27th. I was out voted by 5-2 I believe. So with that being said, I DIDN"T GET MY WAY EITHER! Thank you all for your opinions, comments and understanding and God willing I'll see you all at Harrison Bay on May 13th!

Over my long fishing career I have been a member of several Bass Clubs and fished many reoccurring tournaments. It has been my experience if you have more than one person fishing there will eventually be a conflict. You can't
please everyone all the time. I for one would not want to try and run a tournament trail on Chickamauga right now. There are way to many tournaments to dodge them all. As was said earlier, if you are lucky enough to fish more than the CFF then pick the one you want to fish the most and don't look back. This is supposed to be fun after all.
