Boat Carpet

Working on setting up a deck and floor on an aluminum boat. I wanted to carpet the pieces. I checked prices and the stores and ebay. I know when I did my bass boat a few years ago I got a kit from BPS and noticed it shipped from Dalton. I work down there so I was looking and found Caldwell Carpets website and it said they had a showroom. I went by and they were super nice I wasn't looking for a lot helped me out and gave me a great price compared to what I was seeing. I will be going back for sure when I redo my pontoon or trailer bunks.

There are different weights to carpet. For example, 10-12 oz carpet is thin light and won't last as long as heavier carpet. These light oz rated carpets look nice and are easier to work with. 21or 22 oz is standard on new Triton boats. 20 oz must be used on their older boats before 2015 so the lids will close properly. Something to consider before you buy. Heavier wt will be more durable. Bass Pro sells 20 oz. It will hold more adhesive for a better bond without soaking thru. FYI tip; Don't ever power wash your boat carpet- It will loosen the glue and loo like S---! That will cause it to fail pre maturely and will flop around in the wind.

Thanks for the tip silvetalon. I am taking the boat to the car wash to clean up the hull this weekend, wouldn't have thought much about spraying down the carpet otherwise.

Re doing a 1986 Stratos this winter. pays to read old posts!

I just had my Skeeter recarpeted as I am physically not able to do things like that any more. Guy gave me a great price and used top quality boat carpet and cost me $600.00 and that also included a new water pump install and Lower unit serviced for winter

Eddie Flatt at Fast Glass Marine in Lebanon Tennessee. His father in law is the same guy that keeps me supplied in Crappie Filets in trade for fishing baits. He did a glass repair for me about 3 years ago when a big roller wave hit my Skeeter just about the time I was pulling up to the dock to pick up my partner and did a bunch of damage to glass. Insurance had to pay that bill but work was superb and quick. His shop is also a certified Mercury motor repair shop. ..................... emoDance

Yep, I'm not physically able to take care of my boat the way I'd like to anymore either I wish I was because I still love fishing but I am considering selling my old boat and moving on to the so called " GOLDEN YEARS "

Being in the GOLDEN YEARS does not mean you stop fishing! It means you fish more and enjoy it more. I have a couple buddies that like to fish so there is always 2 of us going fishing for comradery and safety. I'm still fishing out of a 1998 boat, nothing fancy except that new Helix 9 my Son In Law added to it last year and all the LED lighting added to the deck so I can see to move around a little easier at night. I'm 69 going on 70 in January and I probably won't totally quit fishing till they are shoveling dirt in my face GOD willing............... emoAngel

sorry to hear about your situation. As for guys taking me fishing, it is more I take them fishing as I am the guy with the boat most of the time. I was disabled from 1995 till I turned 65 and then they just changed me over to social security but didn't give me no raise...... emoBang I don't want to be nosey but do you have diffculty gettng around? Your on one of the largest fishing sites on the WWW and I am betting there are quite a few guys that might be glad to take you fishing if you just post that you would like to fill a back seat and just go fishing. I let guys around here catch a ride on my back seat if they post it and I have an open seat.
I think this site even has a space and section where you can post that your looking to fill a back seat. Offer to pay the gas for the boat that day. I seldom accept any money offered unless the guy turns out to be a butt head and I wll take his. If I lived down that way you would be offered the back seat on My Skeeter anytime.

I still get around now but some days are a lot worse than others, I have copd and heart problems. I have a boat and don't care to take anybody but I'm limited to time on the water some days I can be out 4 or 5 hours and other days a couple hours is it. I'm with you on boat expense because I would be buying gas anyway if I was by myself , actually I was out for about 3 hours by myself Thursday but I hate to ask anybody to go and plan it then not feel like going after they have made plans

Your putting entirely to much pressure on yourself about how the other person going with you might feel if you can't fish more than a couple hours or might wake up to one of your bad days and not feel like going and have made plans with someone. Put that out of your mind. I can't fish like i use to either. Back in 2000 I was on the lake 8 hours a day 5+days a week. Then damn near died from a heat stroke and if I would not have been on the back seat of a friends boat that reacted quick and got me cooled down I might not be here today. The dctor told me I was trying to kill myself because 3 of the meds I am on says on the bottles "Remain out of Direct Sunlight" So I wanted to fish but now I had limitations. I could be on the water till 10 AM in Spring and 9 AM in Summer and get back on the water at 7 PM and fish all night if i wanted to. So I still fish and I still enjoy it as much. There are anglers out there that are in the same boat we are in that I'm sure would love to go but hate to ask because they don't want to diassappoint another cause they are having a bad day and can't go. Ther are some that don't have a boat that would jump at the chance of just getting to go for a few hours or would understand if you had to cancel that day so you 2 make plans for another day. I have 1 guy that is employed at home and I can call him anytime and ask him if he wants to go the following morning for a couple hours and we meet up at 4:30 AM and fish till 9 or 10. If I wake up feeling like crap I just call him and he goes back to bed.

I do carpet and gel coat work you can look at my page on Facebook if you have it. Fitzgerald marine detailing and restoration. most 21 foot boats I do for 700. and that includes all materials. I have a carpet and top cap reconditioning combo for 900 going on through the end of the year. 4232857467.

Sounds like we have the broke down coffee club team. Count me in too Soft and Fisch. 62, had to quit working at 50. 21 yrs with destroyed knees. Definitely not graceful in a boat anymore. The 6 hr format was great for my endurance.

After fishing about 20 years in tournaments and standing on that trolling motor 6-8 hours a day 5+ days a week every morning when I first stand up I feel like both of my legs are going to just crumble in a pile and hurt like the dickens. Hind sight is 20/20 for sure but even knowing what I know now I probably would have still done it cause I sure loved doing it.
