need some help with motor issue

I have a Mercury 125 outboard 2000 model that I took to the shop for repairs. They replaced the stator and now when I get to 7 mph or 1200 rpms the engine dies. The shop tells me the only way they can fix it is to throw parts at it. Any ideas why this is happening?
