What is the ideal conditions for ledge fishing? Sunny and current is what I have always heard, but is that the thing that lines them up the best?

Current is the key. With low flow they roam around and suspend. Don't like to bite either. In good flow they pull down tight to the bottom and behind structure for current breaks and wait for baitfish to be brought to them.

Do you find that sun/ time of the day/ has any effect...or just current?

current more than light but light levels do play on fish positioning

Rainy with good current....fish still stacked up? I have always thought, when its raining go shallow, but finding out that maybe those ledge fish are still there..

They're still there. They may just move up to a shallower spot on the ledge. Once they get out there they won't go on a milkrun to the bank only to turn around and go back out deep when the sun comes back out

Just idle around until you find them line up and cast on em. If they aren’t set up right move on

Hey Zack just to let you know, you can still catch them shallow. I flipped up an 8lber yesterday in 2 ft of water and flipped 3 more around 5 lbs. Came back out later and had a 7 and a 6 too! Its on!

It's not quite hot enough for the majority of fish to have moved deep just yet. Some have still yet to spawn. Plus florida strain stay shallow all year. I've been spending the mornings shallow the past few weeks until the banks get blown out from pleasure boaters. Best fish are still coming shallow

I might be down with that. I was supposed to work this weekend but it canceled at the last minute and I ended up fishing a little tx sat morn since I couldn't get in the CFF that late.  Man it was a struggle.  I lost 2 bigguns at the boat flipping and then switched up a bit at 1100 and I culled 17 times on a 5 fish limit.  Weighed in at 1:00 and only got 2nd but its been awesome!  (You'll just need some amnesia after we get done!

What is a good general rule of thumb for "school size"? I know they can get much larger throughout the summer, but is a small school or group of say 5 worth stopping to spend time on and how much time would you give to try and fire them up?

It's always worth a shot at a single wolf pack. It can also mean there's more fish around. Just because you don't see them on a locator doesn't mean their not there. I always hate when you find a mega-school and can't fire them up but, sometimes you graph a good hole and not much there but, then fish it anyway and knock 'em out. There's a real good electronics video with Tom Reddington on youtube- 3 ways to ID schools of bass to determine when they are most likely to feed or be fired up. Great vid!

I will check that out. Any good tips on boat positioning? Of course I always try to set up down current but any exceptions or things to look for?

if you see 5 in one pass with your down looking sonar and youre in less than 20' you better stop! there are likely a lot more there than you saw in that one pass.

if i remember right even with 83khz(wide angle 60 degree cone) sonar youre only covering/looking at 6' of bottom in 10' and 12'@ 20.
