After I adjust for winter pool, I set shallow water high lite at 4 feet so I never have to worry about running up on a mud hump or point. I never even look at my depth while running, I just steer clear of the red area's on the map.

The hump in Dallas bay gets plowed every winter, same for cutting inside the red buoy out at the river.

ive navigated multiple parts of the TN river(KY, Barkley, Pickwick, wheeler, Gville, nickajack and chick) over the last 4yrs using this same method and have thankfully managed to avoid running a ground. works great for going to new water!
