5 Pounders

I've been reading through the reports from the first CFF tournament up in Fishing Reports. I don't bass fish much anymore but I still REALLY appreciate the fact that y'all do that. It's really good reading.

But I noticed one thing that really struck me. I saw multiple references to folks just casually mentioning "a five pounder."

I know lots of you are relative youngsters and have only really known the recent Chickamauga Lake "glory days." Back in the 1980's when I DID bass fish all the time, if we had been writing that in a fishing report we would have written, "I caught A FIVE POUNDER!!!!!!!! emoDance There's a good chance we would have gotten our picture in the newspaper and folks would have marveled at our luck & skill. emoApplause

What a difference 30 years can make. Relish these days. I hope it will always remain the same but there could come a time when you'll be rocking on the front porch reminiscing about "the good old days of 2019."

That is funny, me and my buddy were definitely excited over the one I caught and we weren't in a tourney. I was just glad to get a picture holding it. I caught my personal best two weeks before and was by myself all I could do was take pics of the fish. I should have went back to the dock to get someone to take it. I was even happier for the fact I caught this one way up in the Hiwassee. I hope the big ones keep coming that is where I spend most of my time in the summer. Not to mention we have had some pretty tough outings lately.

Good point, Richard, I have fished Chickamauga for over 50 years and I know whereof you speak!

I was just saying this same thing to a young man who catches a lot of double digit LM bass on the Chick these days. Let’s hope and do all we can so these days continue for quite a while.

I won a bass tournament on chickamauga in 1971,when the limit was ten fish that were twelve inches or longer.
I weighed in with ten fish that weighed twelve lbs and some ozs
Looked like a stalk of bananas.
I might be a record holder

Several of my fishing friends and I have had this discussion many times. I remember when someone had a 5 lb. fish in a Tx. they were almost guaranteed the big fish prize. And a 5 lb. fish was almost a measuring bar for someone that wanted to have a fish mounted. As Swamp said, I remember when there 10 fish limits and rarely did anyone weigh in over 20 lbs. That was huge! Today we have multiple three fish TX.'s that go over 20lbs. very often!

Not casual to me...I caught one almost 5 Saturday, and was really upset when one a little larger spit the hook!
