I would have never thought this would have happened. I was catfishing Saturday evening. I was supposed to be sitting above 53 ft of water. Fishing with 6 dead small shad on the hook one ft above the river floor. I caught (according to my really old hand scale) a 7.4 pound largemouth.

I am not a bass fisherman, catfishing is my passion. I didn't think bass hang that deep, nor would take a bunch of dead shad. Would this be something that you guys would think would happen often or is this catch a fluke. Maybe it was just hungry enough or it may be a catfish trapped in a bass body. lol

It can happen! I had an Aunt many years ago that caught a 5lb. 4 oz. Spot (Kentucky Bass) below Watts Bar Dam on a piece of Shad cut bait while cat fishing. They just thought it was a largemouth. She and my Uncle did not know what a spot was until they took it in to have it weighed at a local tackle shop and the owner told them.

That bass is too deep for me to be throwing at it. Pretty cool catch

yes, bass can be that deep and they eat dead shad when the opportunity presents itself.
