I fished all morning in a Frogg Togg lightweight jacket and was bone dry at lunch. I have some of the high dollar stuff but it is simply too warm for this time of year, at least for me it is.

I have good luck with the Columbia Omni Tech gear. Light weight for summer and can function as an outer shell to layer up for cold weather. Academy usually has a good selection.

Im pretty sure that’s what I have. I fished yesterday in the rain for 3 hours and my t-shirt was 100% dry. I’ve also fished out if my kayak in the rain in that jacket and was completely dry. It’s a light weight Columbia rain jacket. I bought it on sale at Academy. It’s hanging in the garage now drying off, but i usually keep it folded up under my back seat in my truck. It’s real thin and doesn’t take up much space so it’s easy to store in the boat when you’re not using it. Mine is always wrinkled, but like i said, it stays folded up in my truck

Unfortunately you get what you pay for on rain gear. I have a very expensive Patagonia gortex shell I found on clearance at MTn Outfitters in Sewanee. Got it for 1/2 price. That was 5 years ago and that jacket has kept me dry on a deer hunts and on the water. I'd look for something gortex with taped seams. If looking on line, always read the reviews. I don't think there are many jackets under $100 That can handle a 65mph boat ride in pouring rain.

I will say i haven’t gone 65 in my jacket. 47 maybe. And after you said that, I don’t think the Columbia one I have would be able to handle higher speeds for a long time without ripping. It’s very light weight and the stress of those speeds would probably tear it up after some time. I have a winter gortex suit, but no way I can wear that now. WAY TOO HOT! Good point

I almost bought a HUK light weight jacket yesterday for $100 and then had trouble zipping it up. i looked closer and on that specific jacket the craftmanship was horrible!! the inside liner had not been sewn(SP?) well and was getting caught in the zipper. unfortunately that was the only one they had in my size. i like to try stuff on before i buy it with close since every brand sizes are different and also fit different. Volsfan, i looked for columbia brand at academy and did not find the omni tech model. any more suggestions would be awesome!
thanks again and Tight Lines to all!!

google: light weight rain shell. then read reviews. some of the best rain wear is made for adventure back packing and western pack hunting. I do not buy insulated rain gear, as I have plenty of merino wool and down to layer under if I need to.

I don’t think mine is omni tech stuff. Ill have to look at it when i get home tonight. It has been my favorite summer rain jacket because it isn’t too hot.

I also have a North Face one i bought a couple years ago. I used to use it. Then one day i went to put it on before an insane downpour and the zipper refused to work. I couldn’t zip it up and that made it useless and I got ABSOLUTELY SOAKED. I get mad when I lose fish, but I was IRATE when the jacket wouldn’t zip up. Maybe I can get that one fixed. It’s a little thicker and made me hotter than the Columbia, but it seems made very well and like it’ll hold up. The zipper just sh*t on me at the wrong time.
