Baseball record

If a player hits .400 in 60 games does it count in the record books . Baseball is back!

Woof - did you open up a can of worms. Great question tho'. ;)

IMHO, hitting .400 at that level for any period is noteworthy. However, I can't see .400 in a 60-game season standing up to Ted's .406 in 1941 across a full season. Or George Brett's .395 in 1980. This might be a case for the asterisk.

Tony Gwynn hit 390 one year also but these guys will be getting 250 to 300 at bats . I know that it is tough to do but don't think it stands up to normal season . Sports are great.

Agree that i doubt MLB will recognize a .400 BA without an asterisk. The long season is just so much tougher with fatigue, injuries, mounting pressure if getting close etc. Would be a noteworthy accomplishment though. Go Braves!

Who knows, They recognize Hank Arron as breaking Babe Ruth's home run record and he went to bat almost 4000 more times than Ruth.

At Bats (AB)

Babe Ruth 8,399
Hank Aaron 12,364

There will still be league leaders in all categories. It's not the same but like the shortened strike season of 1994 everything counts.

Gwynn hit .394 during a strike shortened season where he played in 110 games. Brett his .390 in 1980 in 132 games I think. Carewhit .388 in 155 games in 1977. </p>
