This past Saturday here in Arkansas was the start of our gun season with a kick off of one week of Black Powder muzzle loading. Here it was 40 degrees Saturday morning! ![]() ![]() There I was, sitting in my stand while watching the woods come to life. The leaves were falling with a few acorns hitting the ground. The sounds of the woods in the Fall is something I love to look forward to. I heard a flight of geese going over way up making their migration. Nice to be able to enjoy the moment. I did not see even a squirrel but I knew it was only a matter of time as the light increased. Sunrise was at 7:15 and at 7:49 I eased my head to the left and saw a good size body of a deer standing there broadside looking my way at about 80 yards. I was not sure if he was looking at me or just looking my way. I froze, he stared my way as if he was trying to decide if he wanted to come my way or keep going the direction he was standing. After about five minutes he finally flipped his tail and kept walking the direction he had been standing. I raised my gun and got the scope on him. To be honest I thought he was an eight point. I could see a high rack with nice hones above his ears. He stopped again allowing me the chance for a broadside shot. For this area he was a nice one to start the season off with. I shot a little forward but it was good enough. The ol' smoke pole did it's damage. ![]() First week, on the first day, in the first hour, for the first one this year. God is great!!!! ![]() ![]() Edited by Jmax 10/18/2020 10:53 PM (Picture1018202023_1 (Copy).jpg) Attachments ---------------- ![]() | ||

Ok gang, let's see some success pics. Is it that bad? The guy I hunt with this past Saturday killed this one at 7:30 a.m. Not a bad one at all. We have been seeing mostly little bucks during the day but we know the big boyz are there, we keep getting them at night on our game cams.
