can someone please explain to me why the CFF only fishes til 2pm? why arent we going til 3 like standard tournament hours or even take advantage of the later afternoon bite and go til 4 if its really about having fun and catching fish.

youve already committed the day to fishing, another hour or two isnt going to make that big of a difference after the tournament but can sure make a difference during the tournament.

not true Gary, how many times have you caught a key fish in the last hour? or last few minutes even.

i thought these tournaments were for the fun and comradery, well its more fun to catch fish and this time of year the afternoon bite is often better.

Rusty, when I first became involved with the CFF many years back it was explained to me that the objective was to have a low entry fee Tx. event with shorter hours. They were also trying to attract and introduce more anglers to a friendly Bass Tx. competition. They shared information, gave fishing reports. They tried to show and teach others about the sport. They did not want to have a a large payout pot but rather pay out more places. Orginally the pay out was a maximum of $200 for first place. That since was increased to a whopping $300! They set a 3 fish limit instead of 5. Again, this was trying to attract new anglers because anyone could catch 3 fish but 5 might be a little more difficult. There were several father and son teams along with some husband and wives teams at that time. Many of the participants were a little older. As you know during the day events it gets quite hot. Simply put the CFF officers did not want to have any dog eat dog 8, 10 or 12 hour marathon competitions. We now have Tx. events on Chickamauga just about every day of the week and on other nearby sournding lakes also. If someone wants to fish longer or even shorter events they have quite a selection to chose from.

what a polite way of telling me to go elsewhere to fish Earl.

certainly dont consider an 8hr tournament a marathon.

No sir! That wasn't my meaning at all. You asked for an explanation as to why the CFF had the 2pm cut off and that was about as accurate as I can get in explanning what they were trying to accomplish. Maybe I failed in doing so. The CFF wants to attract more new participants, not stir them away. Everone has preferences or differences in their opinions about about everything. That is the reason they make chocolate, vanilla, strawberry and countless other flavors of ice cream! People can choose and select what flavor they think best suits them. I was just saying that if you or anyone else wants to fish longer or shorter events either one, they are available.

Some people, like myself, like a 2pm weigh in at times.

Yes, I have caught key fish in other tournaments that weighed in at 3pm or 4pm right before the buzzer. But I have also caught key fish at 1:55pm before a 2pm weigh in as well.

If there were interest in our participants for the change then the Tx. Committee would discuss and vote.

I like the 2pm weigh in. And one more thing rusty you need to pay close attention to the blast off rules at Chester frost before someone says something. It really didn’t bother me but it might someone else. I am not trying to stir up anything either I am just trying to help you out.

First, Rusty wasn't driving, I was. I apologize for passing the aluminum boat that blasted off in front of me but I thought they were heading across the creek until they turned back toward the mouth and I was already going by them. I will idle out farther next time to see where the boat in front of me is headed before I put it on pad and pass somebody. I promise you that my ranger is not a speed demon and I do know the rules and respect them.

Brother I didn’t mind I know my boat is the slowest there. And I don’t mind if you go around me at all. Just trying to help out in case you all didn’t hear him. Not trying to stir up anything. Just giving you a heads up. You can pass me anytime don’t matter to me. But someone else might.

I started on the tournament committee right before Earl did. At the time, we set it up so that the tournaments were more about fellowship and fun than being part of the BFL. We urged anglers to bring their kids to fish, and pushed the idea that if you fish until 2pm, you still have time to get home and enjoy part of the day with the family. We saw how other tournaments did and made the decision we did not want to be like the others.

3PM, it's only once per month. It's not like we are out there every Saturday till 4pm neglecting our families! It's only an hour extra (actually a normal 8 hr tx).
