Low Water

At what water level do you think it is unsafe to use ramps on the Chick. Particularly, Harrison Bay, Wolftever, Grasshopper. I have never fished the Chick in the winter. I know all is good today at 4.50 feet below full pool.

I’ve personally seen 2 dropped off of possum creek. I also saw the pieces of a trailer left at sale Creek after the axles had been ripped from the trailer after dropping it off. I have put in both with a tandem axle at about 675’ but was very cautious. I have no experience at the ramps you mentioned. There is also a rock pile out from Chester frost that will get your prop when you load or unload the boat. I know the lane near the vending machine is ok. See you on the water……

harrison bay is always good as is holly circle, i cant speak for the others below 676.

the trick is to never let your front axle(on a tandem axle trailer) get off the ramp, you can dangle the rear tires/axle and use the motor to pull the boat off the trailer. then your only concern is the pile that tends to develop on the otherside of the blow out hole.

A lot depends on the length of the trailer. I put in at Chickamauga Dam once (lake side) when the water was very low. My single axle Lowe tin bass boat had no problem but the guy next to me with a longer dual axle trailer dropped off the end and it was a big mess getting him out of the water. I share your concerns about ramp usability in low water conditions. That's just one of the reasons I don't fish in the winter on the Chick more, that and I just don't like the cold:)

Great advice, thanks guys. In regard to putting in at the Dam, is it always windy and rough there? I have only put in there twice. And dang, it was white capping at the ramp. Had a horrible time getting out. Have not tried it again. Thanks again.

As Fshn Cpa says, at Harrison Bay you best stay to the right when facing the water and even then if the water is very low I'd be careful not to drop off the end of the ramp if your trailer is long and / or your trailer has to sit deep to launch.
