Sometimes it's all in the details regarding certain lures and presentations

The nice thing about push button is they're so easy to maintain and get parts for, though if I had to chose between Zebco and Pfleuger, Pfleuger reels are better in quality, but Zebco had much better customer service.

Gotta love soft plastics for different species - especially those I pour myself

" I do have faith in my baits to catch fish, but if you fish my baits like you fish injected store bought baits you will probably catch the same amount of store bought bait fish you always have. " Half of the success of any lure is confidence no matter how good the lure. I've sent sample...

I remember the Larew lawsuit no going anywhere concerning the addition of salt, but I thought it involved Gary Y's use of it in his Senkos which GY eventually paid to be able mix it in his plastics. I guess no design is safe as long as one angler takes a lure to someone to copy or a lure crafter...

Learn something new every day! Thanks Doug. Glad Andrea lost, though I can understand his outrage at companies or individuals making money off his original design even though more than 10% different. It's one of the reasons I don't sell the lures I've designed for fear of seeing them offered in...

How large is to large (lure-wise) and how small is too small (hook-wise) ?

"what Grade of Plastisol are you using Hard, medium or soft? " I pretty much stick with M-F plastisol and use soft grade and medium. If I want the bait to have more action with the least rod tip manipulation at the slowest speed, I add a small bit of softener to soft grade plastic before...

That's the worm tail ! - you got a better memory than me. I was also thinking of mold #854 from LC which is part Sweet Beaver body with similar designed tails. Andrea threatened a lawsuit when the offered the Sweet Beaver design. Now it's considered a generic design and everyone is copying/...

https://www.enforcerbaitmolds.com/ Only aluminum molds : injection or non injection. Nice forum also. No doubt LC has a range of designs and sizes of each. I've caught many fish with the lures produced from silicone molds and can't beat the price. Granted, aluminum mold lures are pretty and...

How large is to large (lure-wise) and how small is too small (hook-wise) ?

After I repaired my reel to make it cast longer distances (spool was over filled), I wanted to test it and a 3.75" worm with a new design. A few things I learned and a few things confirmed: 1. Don't overfill your reel ! 2. When it comes to cold water (41 degrees in this case), fish will still...

Nice lures Doug! It's always a good thing to exercise our imaginations at least once a day! (especially at my age - closing in on 70 where that's the only exercise I get! LOL) Also is the feeling of accomplishment catching fish on lures few if not anyone has caught fish that we made with our...

"I'm guessing that 12-20 ft in stained water it's all about the action" Even in stained water that's clear down a few feet, lure action IMO is 90 % of the appeal, the rest being rod tip action.

Sometimes it's all in the details regarding certain lures and presentations

If you want to go lite, spinning and push button are the way to go for 1/16 oz or less. Push button reels by Pfleuger and Zebco now have infinite anti-reverse, bearings and a decent gear ratio/ spool diameter. If all you use is 1/8 oz or heavier, than baitcast is fine, though the other reel...

I would post pictures of my baits but ain't quite figure out how to do that yet!! I nice photo storage site that you can copy and paste photo addresses from is at IMGUR. It also allows editing the photo with many different tools such as size/rotation, brightness, sharpness, color saturation...

Sometimes it's all in the details regarding certain lures and presentations

I've found in the last ten years that light tackle catches me the most fish on any day. Being a lure crafter (jigs, spinnerbaits, in-line spinners,) before pouring soft plastics, I knew from experience that lures must be made and look a certain way in the water to catch fish. Crappie.com has...

Gotta love soft plastics for different species - especially those I pour myself

We're on the same page as far as lure testing is concerned and applying lures and presentations between waters. There are five bodies of water near me that I fish. Depth that fish are holding is in my book as important as any structure formation such as flats, steep drops, humps, weed beds, etc...

Wow! Someone who writes as much as I do in a post! But thanks - you're an angler after my own heart that has experienced much, observed and remembered plus you came to conclusions Bill Dance wouldn't have on his show. Here is one thought of on the water last week when the bite was real slow...
