Well, its over. I have to say that this was one very strange season. I saw some awsome rutting activity durring my 8 day stint in Illinois but I got greedy and let alot of smaller bucks walk I wish I had shot now. Then I got back to TN and the frustrations continued. I waited and waited for the rut to kick in and everytime I thhought it was going to hit-nothing. I was able to take 4 does this year to do my part in managing the heard and filling the freezer. 2 with a bow and 2 with a gun, all in Middle TN. This is my first buckless year in the past 10, but this is what I get for letting all of those young bucks walk, and I have no regrets. I had a lot of fun with friends and will walk away from this season with alot of great memeories. I wraped up the season yesterday. At 9:45 I had 2 does and 2 babies come through, after they passed by I looked skyward and thanked the man upstairs for allowing me to witness his creatures in a natural state, as well as allowing me to make it safely through another deer season. Okay-lets get to bass fishing!!!!!!

churly I too went ofer on the bucks. First time in a long time. I also uped my requirements for what i wanted to kill. Never killed any little bucks but have killed some dandy bucks and let a lot walk this year. I passed onseveral 115ish deer walk while bow hunting in IL. No regrets. There will be some dandy's there next year... We took two real nice 8pointers off of it tndoe killed one and another buddy of mine. His largest so far. The owner missed a 150" deer this year....Congrats to you holding back. It is garunteed that if you shoot a 110" deer he will never grow any bigger.

Hey Churley Maybe you can clean some folders out and post some pics from this past year. Just to sum up your year like 2 jigs.emoUpsmile emoUpsmile

well i to had a great year hunting. My oldest daughter went with me several times that was great just by its self. My wife even went with me once i think she enjoyed the peace and quite. I did kill one good buck this year a 6 pointer with a 16" spead. Let a little 3 pointer walk and didnt see any does when i was able to shoot them but did have a great year.

Well put Churly, thanks for sharing your family property with me and inviting me along. Also appreciated your company on the Buck Club and hunting the local private areas as well. I do want to thank you for passing that good six up, I will try to get him next year when he is a 8 or 10.emoPoke Like you said, time to go fishing.emoBigsmile Jmax

Good read Churly....

You cannot kill the big ones if you don't let the little ones walk. I have to agree with the crazy rut this year. We hit our Kentucky property on opening weekend of rifle season expecting the rutting activity to be hot and heavy the way it normally is in the first couple weeks of November....it did not materialize as it has in the past. Moved south to Georgia and Alabama and the times that are traditionally the rut time for this area came and went with seeing very little rut activity. emoScratch I did see several small bucks really annoying the heck out of the does. We have a rule...you must take two does out of the herd before you can shoot a buck. So I took two in Ky, two in Ga. and three in Alabama. Filled the freezer with good meat emoHungry , saw lots of deer, and won't have a taxidermy bill this year. :(

Tennessee's over for the year, but I've got some property in Alabama that I hunt for meat. The land-owner is a farmer, and he wants them all gone. He's been threatening to get a crop-protection permit, so we do all we can to keep him happy. I hate the idea of shooting them at night and letting them go to coyote food. All told, it makes it a lot easier to let my small bucks walk around the house. If I could just get a couple of the heathens down the road to think like that we could really have a good herd.

Alabama season goes until Jan. 31, so maybe I can get one or two more for the freezer.

It has indeed been an odd season. My old faithful honey-holes were dry, due mostly to the lack of acorns. Around the house it seemed that the deer were moving mostly at night and staying close to the bottom. I saw a lot more road-kill deer this year than ever before.

wow!!!!!!!!!!! baby deer this time of year is very very very strange !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ain't it nice to finally get to sleep in on Saturday

. About 90% of my hunting was on public land...antlers are a rare sight. However, I am more than content with a freezer full of does.

I to enjoyed the season this year and was fortunate to take an 8ptr and 2 does early on during mzldr season. As a matter of fact all 3 deer were taken with a mzldr this year. I also was blessed being with bassbullet on her first and very successful hunt in dec when she took her first deer - 10ptr (should be back from the taxidermist within 2 to 3 wks). We had a lot of fun hunting and fellowshipping with family and friends as usual and met 2 new friends this year in Illinois. As Jimmystrition said, we also let several bucks walk this year so hopefully we will have a few more larger bucks to choose from in 08.
