Help Support Chattanooga Fishing Forum:

That Obama has not started one war yet! G.W. Bush started two. Obama is way behind.
Bush and Cheney were up to their elbows in oil interests - perhaps that is why... Whoa, we better not start on oil.
Bush began with a solid budget from Clinton and left office with a deficit. That is easy for many to forget.
Bush set a record for all presidents for having spent over one-third of his eight years on vacation. That blasted Obama better get going if he is going to get close to Bush's record.
I would rather go fishing than get involved with politics.

Clinton started with a booming economy from BushI..the economy changes every 8 yrs. and has since the War Between the States, except for the FDR(D) yrs. and the Japs got us out of that Kngdom Rule.
Only 10% of Iraq oil has been contracted for the US..war was not about that, it was about weapons (gas)that were beeing used against the Iraqi people and weapons that were being built and acquired by Sadam Hussien. Sadam is seen in a pic with a nuclear trigger...go figure that...that's the hardest part to obtain.
Obama said, "don't judge me , but judge me by whom I surround myself with." AS you can see, it is getting VERY dangerous, as you can see who he is putting into his cabinet and appointes.

Tricky Dicky is like Bill Clinton,,,,they will only be remember by their short comings..Watergate & Lewinski
Obama tripled the deficiet by BushII, x's 3 in only 16 months.

Yes, Obama increased the deficit. Many of the ideas were from economists, not fishermen. We did avoid a depression. I am not old enough to remember the depression, but I was told of it from my parents.
Some would argue against the stimulus funds. Our son is a former marine who, last year, graduated in education and wound up with a teaching job in one of the poorest counties in Tennessee because of the stimulus funds. People don't seem to complain about funds being used to send soldiers to their deaths or to be permanently injured, but they complain about funds being used to improve the veteran's hospitals or to give Americans jobs and children an education.
On tonight's news it was mentioned that several more soldiers died overseas. Obama did not start that war. During that same newscast it was mentioned that Obama was making it much easier for veterans with mental problems to get help — help they could not get with the previous president.
I would still rather go fishing than talk about politics. We can all get along on the water.

Most,(conservatives) wailed against the things FDR did back in the late 1930's that helped get us out of a depression. It's interesting to go back and read newspaper/magazine articles from that era. History repeats itself yet again. Like the 1920's, Republican policies are largely responsible for the mess we are now in, yet they feel entitled to bitch about the way it gets fixed. Imagine what the boss at your job would would say/do to you if you screwed up a big project, but then started griping about the way the person brought in to fix your mistakes was doing his job?
"Talk to the hand" cause I don't wanna hear it!

Those principles may stave off or get us out of a major recession, but we really need to examine how to keep it from happening to such a severe extent. I don't see how some of the same principles we apply to our own individual lives can't apply to our government. Don't buy a new car, don't finance toys, don't run up credit cards, save a little, don't spend more than you make. That's what the government does, spends more than it collects in taxes. It's like the broke college girl with the IPHONE that charges $130 a month. She can't imagine living without the iphone when in all reality it's quite possible. I'm not really angry with Obama, maybe annoyed at times, however, I am angry with Congress. The petty fighting I see all the time on television is not beneficial.

I have to say, getting a social security statement in the mail saying I won't collect all of my money back one day is quite discouraging. It would be nice if I could take that money, pump it back into the economy, save, invest, etc. Where does it stop though? I guess the people collecting now have no choice but to keep collecting, and I am a small part of someone collecting the money.

outcaster is right about history repeating itself, as I often reflect on this while teaching a 4th and 5th grade curriculum. The articles of confederation failed as the national government did not have enough power, the states had too many of their own rules, currencies, etc. The constitution comes about. Now it feels as if there is not enough free will decisions being made, and possibly government is getting too big again. Maybe states should be able to determine their own educational philosophies, instead of NCLB determining what my students are learning, a federally mandated program that tells if teachers are bad based on 4 days of testing by 9, 10, and 11 year olds in the elementary. remember when you got a new pair of shoes in elementary and that's all you thought about that week?

I use the education example as I'm a teacher. You can't tell me some politicians in D.C. know what will be most beneficial to students, I know what is most beneficial to my classroom, and if I do not, my boss tells me what to do better.

I am not republican or democrat, but I teach my students conservative financial values. I like to think of it as financial literacy. We talk about things such as long term saving, buying a used car out of college, certificates of deposit, TINSTAAFL, you name it. We as individuals can prevent this crisis from happening again. I am nervous though that running up the deficit to stop the bleeding now will lead to cardiac arrest later.

History does repeat itself, I hope we don't forget the meltdown that just happened when things are rolling again and we get loose with our spending, loans, etc.

The Domino effect.Clinton said, everyone should be able to afford a dream home....ie; I'm paying $1000 per month
Rent. Now Fannie-Freddie & Barney (FranK) are offering sub prime teaser loans with a ballon. They say why pay $1000 rent when you can pay $850 a month for a HOME, and when the varible loan comes due, you should have a pay increase and still stay in your home. Well, intrest rates increased and the bill came due, buit it was $1400+ a month and your didn't get enough pay to suplement the increase for the ballon payment of refinace..You loose your home or bankrupt, the mortage co. gets stuck along with the banks, who took Fannie-Freddie-Barney & Clinton at their promise and the banks fail, Freddie/Fannie are near bankrupt , so the government takes YOUR money, the tax payer money and BAILS them out, cause they are too big to fail. Stocks fall, because they are directly affected, building stops, hiring stops, car buying stops, GM fails, etc.,it's the DOMINO EFFECT!
It's like SHSIMONS said, you cannot spend or buy if you cannot afford it, but the government keeps printing paper money, and everyone wants a free ride, because it's not their fault." 3 years on unemployment is rediculous!" Life time on WIC and Gov. subsidices, 2 - 3 generations on government handouts...get a life, you should not be allowed to vote.
VA Benefits were revamped by Kennedy. NOW Obama says, "If you are a foriegen student, you will get FREE benefits (education) by the government. Maybe we should all go to Mexiico and cross back in the USA through Arizona, and declare we are immigrants and get the FREE STUFF.food, housing, medical, education, school meals, and a pass on tickets, cause they can't find you.Jump & run if you have a wreck and kill a few Americans, cause you don't have insurance on your 85 Monte Carlo. And then get 25 million of your illegal buddies to protest, cause you don't like US policy.
Then our Justice Dept, can protect you if you stand outside a poll area and scream, "Kill all The Crackers, " and say they will NOT prosecute reverse discrimination. BS.. Could it be Ombama's fault that he appointed black extremist and Progressive people to all his cabinet, and departments???NAW, it's just the way things happen with Democrats.
All Republicans are raciest. Bid-4 Spades, (BridgeTerminollogy)

Eyeman2....I do not agree with you at all...if you would read about the deregulation in the mortgage industry under Clinton you would see that it started under the Reagan administration and was a result of the Republican "Contract with America". As far as fiscal responsiblity....neither Republican or Democrat practice it with any regularity. They are all crooks and only willing to do what will keep them in office. For example, look at Zach Wamp, who said that he was only going to serve so many terms in Congress and nearly doubled that. You cannot trust anyone.

The Japs got us out of the Great Depression..unemployment was 14-17% before 1941...FDR policies did not work...raising taxes does not work.
Barney Frank, who is chair of Fannie/Freddie was asked point blank twice (3 years apart)by a commite headed up by a bipartisain group, chaired by a Republican, and the question was: is fannie/freedie solvent,,,he answered they ARE, and then went off on slobbering a traide. At that time they were going under like a ship hit with a torpeado.
Just wait till this Fall when we have a Lame Duck Congress, all that were voted out are going to put the screws to the American Public. Vote 'em out, get new blood in I don't care if you are a Whig, Republican, Tory, Democrat, or Independent. We need our country back. Stop voting Lines/freebies etc. before you loose it all.

FDR's policies did not work because he did not do enough, like you said, massive government spending during WWII got us out of the depression. One more thing Eyeman, Clinton did not inherit a booming economy, Bush got beat because he tried to use his success during the Gulf War to put him back in office. Do you not remember when he asked how he lost the election to Clinton it became a catch phrase "It was the economy stupid." However I will say this, Bush Sr. was a good president, his big mistake was during his last state of the union when he pounded the podium, which he did alot, wanting a capital gains tax decrease. Most people out of work do not know what that is other than another break for the rich. In my opinion that is what got him beat. I really like the man though.

Which is worse? A politician in the ditch on the left or one in the ditch on the right? Toss up??? Likely.

We cannot get the bums to support term limits so I suggest we do it for them. Vote them all out. In my opinion, once they are in office long enough, they get greedy and corrupt, even if they were great when first elected.

Whether or not you agree with it, the country is in a real crunch caused by power grabbing, corrupt politicians. Be careful who you vote for and be damn sure you do not vote for someone who MIGHT be willing to continue down the road of spending like a drunken sailor. You and I cannot sustain spending this way in our private, individual lives and our elected office holders should not either.

VOTE ALL OF THEM OUT. We'd be better off drawing names from a big drum than re-electing the stupid jerks in office now. VOTE THEM ALL OUT, regardless of party, age, gender, or any other criteria. We'd be light years ahead with a complete change of elected officials.

Just do it.

Reduce the standards on borrowing and freddie /fannie will carry the paper from the banks.Whodidthat?
