Where: Mid-Atlantic small stream so it remains nameless
When: 1/6/07 09:00-16:00
How: Cranks, Jerks, and Fat ass Tubes
What: Smallmouth
From: Canoe and Kayak

Been awhile since I have got to fish with my buddy Pete. We had warming temps and rising water so we headed out to fish. Getting to the putin was a little difficult due to a tree over the old logging road but we finally got to the putin and launched around 9. I hit the water before Pete, and on my third cast i tangled with a 19" smallmouth. Pete picked up his pace after give me a thumbs up from the distance shore. We continue to have a good, scratch that, great day. Pete's best 6 went for 17.5, 18, 18.5, 19, 19.25, and 21 inches with another 14 or so around 14". My biggest five went 19.5, 19, 18.5, 18, and 17 inches with another 6 or so around 14". We seldom weigh fish but since Pete left his boga grip on the kayak from his last saltwater striper trip, we did get weights on his 21"-5lbs, his 19.25"- just over 4lbs, and my 18"-slightly over 3 lbs. Fish were in spots more typical of late fall and early spring instead of winter spots. Jerks were fished over deeper areas with broken ledgey rocks, Cranks were pounded on bottom at edges of current, and Fat Ass tubes were longcasted (fish too spooky for flipping) into shoreline micro-eddies (undercut root wads and such).

Now the tricky part, I'll attempt to add some pics. Well I will have to wait till I get home for pics, work firewall is not let them out.

Oh come on now... don't tease us that way. I'm going to guess Nolichucky or Holston??? Great fish and great way to get to them! Good job. emoThumbsup
