Well as slow as yesterday was today was wide open. We decided to do a little shiner fishing today around the barge tieups and bridge pillings down at the Riverpark. Man did we make the right decision. Every bridge pilling we fished had spots stacked up behind it. We put 25 spots and 2 largemouths (about 12" each) in the boat and lost about 10 more. Unreal how the fish will destroy a shiner but not touch an artifical bait. Today really opened my eyes about just how many spots are down there as for every one you catch on artificial, they must be 10 or more just watching it go by. We watched one boat flat wear spots out behind one pilling and when they were done we went right in behind them and caught about 6 more (3 of them 1.5 lb keepers)!!! Anyone with kids should buy a few dozen shiners and take them fishing at the Riverpark. We fished the shiners under float and without. The float method won out as Alvin killed me 17 to 10. Alvin also caught a 7lb blue and we both caught some bluegills and yellow stripe.

MB, we both took home our limit for dinner.

Numbers:

25 spots put in the boat
2 largemouth (12" each)
about 10 spots lost on the way to the boat

Just take your cast net and get some threadfins and don't spend the money for the shiners. They will eat them frozen also.

I got some last night after catfishing on the Chick (about 3 dozen) and left them in the freezer this morning. emoDoh
