Today Yankee Skeeter took me out to chase some brown fish (smallmouths of course). The day started out slow as I lost the first smallmouth I hooked (around 10") so we decided to keep busy catching some spots and small largemouths. When and Why showed up a little later and took us to their secret spot (which looks a lot like MB's secret spot). It did not take long before When and Why started catching a few brown fish and Yankee Skeeter put our first brown fish in the boat (again about 10"). I got the next one at about the same size. A few minutes passed and When sticks a pig....er cat. The fish turned out to be a 20lb or so blue caught within 10 feet of the bank. Being the catfish pro that I am I volunteered to land the creature. When did a good job playing the fish up to the boat and just as I stuck my thumb on his lower jaw (yep, I was gonna lip the thing), it shook its head and the hook went flying by my head. The fish was gone. YS did a picture of me trying to get the fish. Another 20-30 minutes passed and YS sets the hook on a nice 2lb smallie. As he is playing it to the boat, Why sticks a smallie that would probably go 2.5lbs. A two boat double!!! All in all a nice day on the water and I got to see some techniques on catching the brown fish on the river.
Thanks for the ride YS and it was good to meet you When and Why.
I almost forgot the best part. I caught the smallest bass I have ever seen caught with a rod and reel. The thing was 3 inchs long. Even Fat Albert would have a hard time catching on this small.emoLaugh
