Oh how I love the weather. We have been catching keeping largemouth for the past 3 weeks round Racoon Mtn fishing laydowns and wood. Wednesday I put 3 keepers in the boat in 2 hours. But boy you let a cold front come through and everything falls apart.

We started the day running a milk route up around Racoon Mtn I had setup based on the past 3 weeks. First two spots were zero. The third spot did product 2 largemouths but they were both between 14-15 inches.emoBang

It was not until the fourth spot that I put a fish in the boat. I put 2 slick spots and a 14 inch largemouth in the boat right were he was susposed to be. Just short.emoBang

We fished a few more spots and Bbass finally got us a keeper. A huge 12.1 inch spot. emoHoppingmad

We fished another 3-4 spots with a few short fish. We then decided to start heading back down river and hit a bank just across the pump station and Bbass got our other keeper: a 16 inch largemouth off a stump in less than 2 feet of water. That was the last fish of the day and was caught at about 12:30 or so.

All in all the wood pattern did procduce fish but not the size that it had been. I really think the weather had a lot to do with this but who knows. All fish but 2 were caught on pig n jigs with the other two coming off a torpedo. Fish were all in 1-5 feet of water.

Now to the boat!!!

I got to borrow my co-workers 20 foot Triton today. Man what a sweet ride. It is a TR20 with a 200 Yamaha. Mint condition and loaded with every option you can think of. I hit 72 mph according to the speedometer on the ride back (it will run a little faster, I just need to learn how to drive it). Love it, love it, love it. If all goes well it will in my garage by next spring.

I thought for sure you had this one in the bag, Mr. Whiskers! It was definitely a tough day. We started at the submerged trees at the head of Pryor Island. The spots were schooling right on the channel edge and within minutes I stuck a 16"er and a handful of slicks. Then "BLAM...BLAM, BLAM"...a couple of guys on the island started blasting geese. My father-in-law freaked out and insisted on leavingemoMad. We spent the rest of the day fishing weedlines and the roadbed just across from the launch. I continued to catch slicks throughout the afternoon and was never able to put a solid pattern together as the fish came from such a wide depth range. At 2:25 and within sight of the ramp, I landed our second keeper off an isolated laydown. That was it for us.

Although the bite for us wasnt want we wanted, we did aleast get a few fish. Micheal put me on those small pig'n'jigs and I think I've gotten addicted to them! Took me a few times out to get used to the bite but now I'll have to say its probably one of my favorite baits. I was amazed that the bigger keeper was that shallow. I could see the bottom and the stump very clearly, took my eyes away for a sec and the line was gone.

I've been in this same boat up north and to tell you the truth, I was a bit worried about the ride. The biggest thing I noticed is how much a Jackplate can do!!! My buddy up north dosent have one and Michael's "Soon to be" Triton does. SMOOTH! The chime walk was real bad and the overall smoothness to the ride in the rougher water was very tollerable. Gotta get one on this Stratos this winter now!!!

Good to be a part of the forums here and Thanks to Cutthroat for putting this one on.

Oh...forgot...That was the FIRST time I've ever been on that body of water. I plan on being back FOR SURE!
