I've been getting a lot of hits on a 10" worm, but only landing about 50%. I am wondering if it might be the hook I'm using. I am using a Owner #3 offset. What would you suggest? I don't think it looks big enough for the worm.
Thanks,
Channing

I switched to a number 5 gamagastsu offset a couple month ago, and though i still miss a few, i noticed that it "hooks-up" alot easier than the cheaper brands.

#5 offset like most others have said also think about using the thinner wire hooks(not superlines ,gammies) the thinner wire allows for better penetration. i have used bigger hooks in the past but the #5 works for most applications.also thread your worm up and over the eye by 1/4 inch this will throw the hook right where it needs to be. just my o.

good luck and happy sticking!!!!!!

i spend a lot of time throwing a carolina rig and have always used a 4/0 gamakatsu hook. i use to stick to an offset hook but i have started using the 4/0 wide gap hook and have noticed that i loose less fish on a wide gap hook. i think there is such thing as having TOO big of a hook when fishing big worms and the key to fishing a worm that size of course is to let the fish take it and pull on it good before setting the hook. in most cases, if they are going to take it good, the longer you can wait the better that hook will be in em

i think its the fish not your hook or hookset when a fish sees the big worm if its feeding and aggressive it s instinct is to kill the bait they hit it in the head alot of times they will suck it in thats usually when they get stuck deep . ive seen video of this. it does help to ues big hooks but make sure they are sharp .i tx rig with a no7 owner but ill throw 12 sometimes 14 in .worms 10in worms ill throw no,5 s caroina rig with a no4 or 5 wide gap hope this helps .
