Bbass and I fished the Heat Tech tourny this morning out of the Riverpark. Wisler11 and BigFishGuide were the other forum memebers that fish along with us. This was a live bait tourny so I was expecting some good smallies to be weighted in.

We started the day by fishing shiners along the bridge pillings. Caught a bunch of little fish but no keepers. I took Billy over to where we killed them yesterday. The fish were still there but smaller. We managed a couple of keepers off that bank with one being a 2lb spot. Down river we went to look for some keeper fish. Around Mocassun bend I stuck and landed a 4.1 lb smallie on a Jigging Spoon!!! Yep a Jigging spoon. The fish was in 18 feet of water about 10 feet off the bank in a current eddy. Nice. The rest of the day we only managed one more keeper for a total of 4. Total bass caught and landed was 42. Can you believe 42 bass and only 4 keepers!!!! Gotta be a record.

Our total weight was 7+ with the kicker smallie of 4.1. Big stringer went to BigFishGuide at 14+ and big smallie went Billy's friend at 5.0 lbs. Anouther large smallie of 4.5? was also weigh in.

Even though we had shiners all of our keepers and about 80% of our fish came from atificals. Tubes, jigging spoon and pig n jig were the baits of choice with the tube catching 3-1 over the other baits.

We only caught around 20 fish. Our top 5 was 5 1/2 lbs total. All spots. We couldn't seem to get that one good keeper lm or sm. All our fish were caught on shiners, either bumping the bottom or under a slip float. Did get to see a fisherman that was not in the tx release a 7.2 smallmouth that he had brought up to the ramp for measurements. We enjoyed the invite, thanks. Steve

Well...after a great day on the water (working the net), I took a long nap to ease my fustrated mind. Never have I had that bad of a day catching limit worthy fish. Mr W did a FINE job! Thanks for hanging out with me and teaching me a few new tricks

DHaun - 11/25/2006 6:59 PM That is a beautiful fish! Do you know what it was caught on?

Threadfin</p>

Billy, think they were using shiners (at least that is what they had in their buckets this morning). BFG was using threadfins.

I would like to thank Heatec for inviting us to fish. I have not fished a tournament in a couple of years and we had a great time.

We used thread fin shad that I caught Friday afternoon. I had proabbly 120 to 150 shad in the tank ranging in size from 3" to 6" long. Real nice mix of bait. We started at the dam off the end of the walls and in the first 30 minutes we had a limit of fish (all spots) I broke off a couple of real nice fish which would have really sky rocketed our weight. (Forgot the dip net and that is a for sure way to catch some big fish). I think we would have rented one for about 50 dollars if we could have found someone willing to rent a dip net to us. By 8:30 we had went through more than half our bait and I started rationing it out. We jigged spoons and jigs with no luck all the fish that we caught were on the live bait. The fish had there noses right on the edges of the current. If we went more than 20 minutes with out a bite we moved on to the next eddy we could find. Where ever the break in current was is where the fish were. We pulled on one spot and caught 25 or 30 fish. I think the flood gates and turbines had the fish stacked in the low or no flow zones of the river. Total fish day I would say we caught approx 60 fish and missed or broke off another 30 fish. We had a couple of very small smallmouth nothing to even put on a measuring board. I had never fished the lower part of Chick-a-mauga but I'm going to be back. I saw several nice sized fish weighed in. Yall have a nice boat ramp and dock and it's good to see lots of people using these facilitys. We were not sure where to begin so I went with what I knew from fishing Nick-A-Jack dam and the fish were on the walls out of the current. Maybe If I fish there a little more I will be able to find some of thos nice smallies. Excellent tournmanet and Thanks again Heatec for the invite.

Man those are some nice spots!!! I have seen a few but they are rare at least for me anyway....

My hats off to BFG. Just goes to show you what natural, native live bait will do. I really thought 10-11 lbs would win this thing but 14+ is almost a 3lb average from the tailwaters! Unreal.emoWorthy
