AlvinC and I rode down to Nick dam with Dhaun this moring to look for some stripers. We started off at the wing wall and within the first 10 minutes I stuck the first striper that left with my jigging spoon. I did not even slow it down. I tied on another spoon and about 10 minutes later caught a 2-3 lb striper. We then floated some shiners along the current seam and Alvin caught a little striper about 1lb. That was it for the stripers.

We went back to the wing wall were David and Alvin got a double. The rest of the day was spent jigging spoons and trolling crank baits. We did mark a lot of fish in one spot while trolling so we decided to stop. We caught 14 channel cats in the 0.5-2 lb range. They were stacked and when we would mark them we would catch one.

Alvin and David both caught a walleye or sauger. We are not sure. The pics are below if some can let us know which type of fish it is.

Totals: 14 channels, 3 spots, 2 stripers, 5 white bass, 1 yellow bass, 2 walleye/saugers. Most fish were caught using jigging spoons (including the cats).

Good report guys, a cold morning worked out well for you! A good looking Sauger, and hopefully more to come this year.

So everyone says this is a sauger. How do you tell a sauger from a walleye?

Sauger has the mottled brown spots on it. walleye are usually more of a silver color. Sometimes the river run walleye will be a brownish color tho. The spots on the dorsal fin are on Sauger also.

Definitely sauger. The spots give it away. That's a white bass DHaun is holding in the "double" pic.

Speaking of walleye having a silver color, this one I caught this past April was one of the more silver ones I have seen. Usually I see them with more of a golden color. They are neat looking fish. Sauger and walleye, great eating! Way to go guys.
