1198 interference

My 1198 was working great then after a blown powerhead was repaired now my side imaging is all interference. If you shut the main motor off it works great. Talked with dealer then said they did nothing that would interfere with the 1198. Any ideas??? emoBang

Make sure transducer wire is not touching the battery cables from motor to the cranking battery. If it's touching the cables it will sometimes cause a electrical interference.

Some Spark Plugs have internal resistors that kill RF/Electrical Noise. IF they used no Resistor Plugs that could cause the issue. If you still ahve concerns call HB Customer Service they can help 800-633-1468

Most never consider that a wee bit of stray DC current from a short at your motor you never knew existed, can travel down your outboard or I/O into the water and can affect a transducer sounding. Generally, any more than very little movement of your boat while using your electronics, probably would not interfere with a sounding. Should this occur, that small amount of errant current will cause galvanic corrosion (electrolysis) over time and it is most definitely ugly. Rewiring of your replaced powehead could easily produce a current leak. It's something to consider!

My interference issue still present?? I have the resistor type plugs according to the dealer. I just insulated the transducer cable near the cranking battery and all wiring. If this does not work I will swap units from front to back. Then I will change transducers this will eliminate the transducer and the unit. I only have interference with SI??? After that I have no idea.</p>

IF it worked fine before and now after the work it doesn't something changed that is creating Radio Frequency noise. Give HB Customer Service a Call maybe thay can help 800-633-1468

Do you run a stealth charger or any other on the run charging system? My 997 had a similar issue with interference turned out that my problem was the stealth charger put a on off toggle switch in to kill the power to the charger when i was at ideal problem solved turn the switch on put the 997 on the gps screen and run to charge the batteries. Hope u get the problem fixed.
