Well after yesterday's cat battle Alvin, Jimmy and I decided to chase some smallies and spots. We put in around 8AM and started fishing some ledges and holes down river. Not much going on. We had 4 bass in the boat by 11:30AM. After speaking to Dhaun we decided to make the run down to Mocassun Bend. The first spot we tried held two little spots and a 7lb drum. So now it is 12PM and we have only 6 bass. At this point we have tried everything, everywhere with no luck. We just cannot find fish.

We decide to change our luck and try a bank we have never fished before. By 2PM we put another 13 spots in the boat. The bank was part of the original river channel with water under the boat of 20 feet casting distance from the bank. Most fish were caught either under the boat or half way from the bank in 10-20 feet of water. All were caught on tubes and jigging spoons. For everyone beating the banks and fishing shallow I have just one thing to say: FISH ARE NOT SHALLOW!!! We did not catch but 2 fish in less an 10 feet of water today. We ended up with 18 spots, 1 smallie, 1 drum, about 5 yellow stripe and about 5 bluegill. Very slow day despite one of the prettiest days we have had this year weather wise.

That's a great pic of a drum - Its yellow fins almost make it look like a saltwater fish. I would have gladly taken one of those today myself...

You fellows need to take it easy on those poor old drum... or you're going to have to drumking's screen name away! emoLaugh

Dhaun and I are talking about having a drum tourny this spring. Biggest drum wins!!!

That was our idea exactly. Anything goes as far as bait. Maybe in March or April when the drum get really thick. The best part is everyone would be fishing within sight of each other so it would make for an interesting day on the water. Maybe do each person as an entry so we could have 2-3 people per boat to cut down on the number of boats. It would be really cool to get a new state record out of something like this.
