I am confused. I currently have a 12/24 volt trolling motor on my boat. It works fine, well it did til it died on me. My confusion is this, should I get a 12 volt or a 24 volt trolling motor to put back on the boat? I have two batteries already hooked up. What is the difference in amps pulled by the 12 volt vs. the 24 volt? It is on a 18 ft. Ranger BB. The old trolling motor was a 42 lb thrust and it pulled the boat ok, not great but ok. Any info or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Well, when you hook up your batteries in parallel, (+ to +, and - to -) your volts stay the same and you just have two batteries. If you hook them up in series (jumper wire fom - on battery A to + on battery B) you have 24V from the two batteries and a trolling motor on 24V draws half the amps as the same motor on 12V. Hope this helps.
