120HP JOHONSON v4 tilt and trim

Hello i have a hains hunter boat with a 120hp johonson v4 out board the problem iam having is when i press button for tilt to go up or down you can hear motor for a while then all of a sudden tilt works and motor will go up or down no worries some one said it must be low on oil can anyone shed some light on this problem.

More than likely low on fluid.....

Trim it all the way up. On the right side of the trim unit, you will see a cap on the reservoir. Remove this and add ATF (automatic transmission fluid dextron) until it runs out. Cycle it up and down several times. Then trim all the way up and let it sit for about 5 minutes. Then check it again. Hope this helps.

It has the motor one side and the fluid container the otherside but it has a screw on the side halfway down would that be it i thought there would of been a cap up higher for fluid.

The cap is usually round with a flat screw drive slot in the center of it. It is kinda low on the reservoir . That just gives the fluid room to expand. open it slow as sometimes it will have a little pressure on it.
