I went fishing with my father in law this afternoon and the fishing was slow. Whenever I take him fishing the fish never seem to cooperate like they had the day before. The flow was basically non-existent and so the blue cats were not feeding. We then decided to try for some crappies and caught a few off a dock or two but got the biggest one at about 3:30 pm, still no flow. She was another 15 incher and was not as fat as the three pounder from earlier this year but still is my second best ever by over a pound. She weighed in at 2 3/4 lbs. Just massive in my thinking of crappies, they are supposed to be the size of bluegills but this is a monster. Again caught on a panfish assassin off the front of a dock where the flow is usually 180 degrees in the opposite direction. Caught only 2 other keepers fishing for about an hour and a half for crappies. Here's a pic.

My gosh POLO! That's a pretty one!!! Nice job again!

Question .. how does a person tell when the flow is 180 deg. in the opposite direction? I guess I'm trying to figure out what you are saying and what a person would look for if they wanted to fish that particular condition.

I guess I should have paid more attention at map class! :)

You are into those lunker Crappie aren't you Polo? Way to go! emoThumbsup I looked for you but didn't see you. I quit fishing about the time that you caught that sucker. Were you in the creek or in the river?emoGeezer

Isn't that the second big slab that you have caught so far this year? Or do you have a special holding tank under your dock where you are power feeding them. Are you sure that is not your first one just fattened up a bit more. J/K

Beautiful fish my friend. Congrats are in order and that slab is a sure thing for HOF.

Okay guys, I need help. The more I look at the pic I can't tell if this fish is a black or white crappie. I think that the fish is a white but the vertical bars are not very distinct. The other big crappie that I caught this year was for sure a black crappie. What do you guys think this one is? Is it a hybrid?

Look like a white crappie to me. You are right about the bars not being overly distinctive, but the seem to be present . So I say it's a white crappie.

Nice one Polo!emoThumbsup

Save some for me.emoEvil My freezer is back restocked so it will be catch and release unless I go with someone that wants a few. Don't ever keep the bass so got to save up a few bags of crappie for when I really get serious on the bass and stop crappie fishing for a while.

That's a white crappie. They get darker sometimes during the spawn due to hormone changes . That's a great crappie in any lake but esp. the chick. Congrats on that one.
