I just bought a 95 Javelin 379T with a Johnson 150 Fast Strike. The motor ran like a champ for about 20 minutes then went into what I believe is called SLOW mode.

Video of the exact issue http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ua8p...DvjVQa1PpcFMfYyYPexZ1E8T3QvLG8YmrdEcc_w0REhI=

I just dont feel like foolin with it right now. I need it diagnosed and fixed, more importantly diagnosed (I would pay) then I can decide if I want to do it myself, but I know you usually
dont find out what it is until you fix it. Anyway looking for someone to do this or suggestions of where to take it to. Not CBC!

Would that cause this issue? I guess I will do that since it is so cheap... the bulb does not get or stay hard, but that happens on my other boat and it works just fine. Anyway thank you for your advice..

My guess would be the power pack, I had the same year model 150 faststrike and had power pack replaced and fixed it. Cost me about $350 to have it done.

Does it do it as soon as you put it in the water or after you have ran it for a while? I should have a test pack or two that I can lend you to see if it is a power pack.

Well I haven't had it running since it has done this. Starter and Solenoid went out, so, will have starter in on wednesday. Once I have it running I will let you know if that is the case. But since you asked that question, I do recall turning the motor off for a while looking it over and when I started it back up, it did not do it for about 2-5 minutes. So, does that mean it is really overheating? Wrechin I really appreciate that offer, if it gets to that point I could meet you somewhere and give you some collateral or something while I borrow it.

It may be a bad temp sensor. There is no reason for collateral. I work over at Crown Chrysler and can met you at the Chick dam and look at it if needed but will not be this week.

Ok, Im busy til next week as well. I will get in touch with you by cell when I get a better sense of my schedule and the starter is late in shipping anyway. I was actually going to ask you what you charge for rebuilds with performance upgrades, and if you would even consider it. Im sure you are very busy and I have read that there are certain motors you wont touch. Anyway, I really appreciate your time and input James, Thank you.

if it is the power pack i have 1 illl let go for 100.00 just have to see if its the same wireing

OK, got the new horn in today(old one was bad). Hooked it up and now I get the dreaded constant alarm. I have tested the horn, and it chirps appropriately when the tan lead is not connected. So, I know that the tan lead is grounding by sensor or bare wire. I will update after I tinker a little longer. Hopefully whatever is causing this constant alarm will be the same issue that is causing the motor to go into protection mode. I will get back to you all when I figure this thing out, and if I in fact need a powerpack. Thanks again!

Well I have narrowed down to something in the VRO circuit. I disconnected the 2 lead D shaped connector in the motor that comes from the VRO tank(one tan, one black) and that kept the alarm from sounding when the key was turned. I don't know exactly what this means. I haven't gotten in to the VRO tank to see if anything in there is wrong, hoping it will be obvious.

Does this problem seem like it could be what is causing the SLOW mode?

No the plug your talking about had a tan and a black wire in it it is just the low level sending unit when tank gets to about empty 1/4tank it sets the horn to let you know to add oil to the tank will not set slow if it is newer than 1996 with system check do you get any lights on dash unit I.E check engine no oil or hot. if it is pre 1996 then all you will get is a horn. does the motor go into slow as soon as you crank it up or does it take a few minutes

It goes into SLOW immediately. I have tested the temp switches and they are working fine. I still can't figure out what is making the motor go into SLOW mode. Wrenchin2 mentioned that it may be the powerpack. So, Im going to get in touch with him to see if that is what is causing it. The motor is running great, but a little rough at idle....

Have you found problem, It really sounds like the power pack, when I had my 95 faststrike it would cut out like yours at half throttle and shutdown while on plane. Keep us updated, would like to know what the issue is, BB45..

have you run it with both temp sensors unplugged if so take the air box off and you will see the VRO puimp unplug the 4 pin wiring harness and run it see if either of these fixes your problem

Yes, I have run the motor up to 2500 rpm with all sensors unplugged. It should only matter if the temp switches are unplugged, because they are the only sensors that set SLOW mode. I have ordered a power pack and will update when it is installed...

Here is a pic of the "Red Shredder" by the way! Even though she ain't shredding much right now..LOL
