150 Merc Optimax ?

I am thinking about buying a boat with a merc 150 Optimax and was wondering what yall thought about them?

They are a good engine. Like any engine, they will perform they're best and longest if you pay attention to the OEM recommendations regarding fuel, oil, operation and maintenance.

We have sold hundreds and have very very few problems. It is one of the most reliable engines made and i would not hesitate to own one.

Thanks for the help guys! I believe that is what I want! I have talked to a few other people that I know and they say they are some of the best mercurys made. I guess they are like anything else... If you use them enough you willl have a few problems out of them. I am also considering an xr6 but I have heard that the optimax gets a lot better fuel mileage because the xr6 is still a carb motor but I hear it is very reliable.

Good deal! I here the 150 on down tend to have a little better reputation than the bigger.

What I hear is the fuel mileage is great but if there's work to be done on them it's expensive.
