To make it short....The way the system is wired.....It will be the UP relay has gone bad. This is a very common issue for OMC and Merc. Unless you have something like a wire pulled off. This will be it.
To test....If you switch the 2 relays it will go down and not up. They are ususally located on top of the #2 carb on that engine. Looking at it from inside the boat it will be on your right. From the rear it will be on your left "port" side. Hope this helps!!!
its the relay. bet my pay check on it. switch the 2 and i bet it will go down but not up. if that is the case take the bad relay to a junk yard and get one from a car's fuze box. it will be about $14 cheaper than one for the boat. i believe the relays from dodge trucks work. if not there will be one somewhere on a junk yard that does. i would get a couple to keep in the boat. its a common problem
or after reading this, the wife had the big idea of going to Autozone, 8 bucks for a new one. 11$ and shipping on the boat sites. Thanks for the info guys.
