I`m gonna put this out there for anyone interested to think about for a while if needed.

I`ve got this engine that I bought new and at our club TX 3 weeks ago it didn`t seem to be running quite right . I didn`t push it too much and it was still running over 60MPH at less than full throttle. While waiting for my partner to back trailer in I did a quick runout to see if I could figure out what might be wrong. Everything worked fine just not quite right . I pulled the plugs a day or 2 later and #1 is running lean......again.

2 years ago the top main bearing carrier bolts came out and it jumped into the electronics under the flywheel and of course it died. Not pretty at 70MPH when that wave of water comes crashing over the back of the boat. Still wringing out my panties !

I`ve tried to fix it twice and it works for several hours running time then starts leaking (sucking air)again. the only thing I know to do that should fix it would be to tear it down and take it to machine shop to build up weld and machine down the sealing area.

There`s the rub....it`s more than I want to get into and I`ve decided to put a new Merc on my boat.

But it``s ashame that this motor that has been so good and still isn`t hurt would be turned into scrap. Like I said the motor still runs in the 70`s and I could probably run it some more but I know eventually it will seize up and I won`t do that.

I was thinking that maybe someone would want a project and a chance to get 225 for the cheap if you can do the mechanical work. I looked in the cylinders and checked the compression not too long ago and everything was good. For the cost of a gasket set and some machine work and I think you`d be in business. I`ve put one fuel pump on it and 2 water pumps on it since I bought it new and taken it for yearly checkups. Has been a great engine and I don`t think it really has thatmany hours on it to be that old. I fish about 8-12 Txs a year and probably another 12-15 trips to the lake for fun fishing. Don`t run more than 10-20 minutes to my spots. I`ve never really tried to tweak it out for max speed ...found a stock 27 4-blade Renegade that works good with TX load and just left it there. Will push my `20 Bullet mid 70`s GPS in Tx load ....a little more by myself.

You might take this motor and run it like it is for a while. I even thought about a bigger jet to feed it some more fuel in that cylinder. But I decided I want the security of a new warrantied engineand the not worrying about running 20 miles up lake the if need be. I`ll be taking the motor off in the next couple of weeks and if you want it will come with all the cables and controls.

Now I`m not going to give this motor away . It has a Bobs LowerUnit and all the stuff like trim and tilt and all the engine parts are still good. I figure there`s at least 1500$ worth of major parts and props for someoneneeding them ,not counting the little stuff that can be so expensive and hard to find. For some machine work and if you wanted do new rings and bearing while you`re fixing it you would basically have a new short block for not a whole lot of money.

I`d like to get 1800$ but will talk about it if your interested. You can PM me or call me at 865-458-1478 verizon between 6-10pm mon-friday and anytime on weekend.

Ifno one`s interested I may wind up redoing it myself and with a little advice from Wrenchin2 may hot rod it up a little just for fun but that will be down the road a ways when I`ve got some more time. I would prefer to get it to somebody who can really use it.As a last resort I guess I can part it out but that will be down the road a ways.
