Got my 1st buck the 9th of January, watching a big field, but keeping an eye on the game trail that ran down and across the hill just to my right. I heard leaves crunching up the hill, and a doe popped out a few minutes later only about 35 yards away. I heard more crunching (louder) a few seconds later and thought "this is too perfect to be happening." Sure enough, I saw a big deer trot out just about 20-25 yards from the tree I was sitting against. He kept chasing the doe, so I brought my rifle up. He was so focused on the doe that by the time he saw the movement and stopped to look, I had the crosshairs settled behind his shoulder. One shot, and he took about three steps before running into the ground. Double lung shot (saved the whole heart--GOTTA LOVE THE PICKLED DEER HEART!)
