My brother-in-law insisted that I come up and hunt turkey on our old stomping grounds. Wanda and I used to live up there until 1983 when we moved to Chattanooga. So, I made the trip to Cumberland County this AM in the dark and got in the little hut blind that my BIL has built to turkey hunt out of. I was in position at 7:15. At 8:02, a hen walked out of the field to the woods about 15 yards to my left. I just watched her go sneaking back into the woods. A little after nine after carefully watching all around for any sign of turkeys, I got sleepy and just nodded off about 2 minutes. When I woke up, GOOD GOLLY MISS MOLLY, there was 2 gobblers standing in the field about 25 yards from the blind. I thought that I had screwed up because I gently banged the gun against the corner of the hut as I picked it up. Heads came immediately up and they stared at me for about 30 seconds before they resumed feeding. I finally got the gun in position and the safety off, and when my bird lifted his head, the 3" magnum spoke and he rolled around on the ground. The other one headed for parts unknown. This is my first gobbler ever. I haven't hunted them much. I did kill a jake two years ago and didn't even hunt last year. Turkey nuggets deep fried sure does sound good. emoBigsmile emoGeezer

Oh, the gobbler had 8" beard and 1" spurs.

Nice way to start! Always a dilemma to go turkey hunting or fishing this time of year.
