Come on guys and gals, someone was bound to shoot something. Let's at least see some pictures. We want to know. emoScratch Jmax

(I bet our local Robin Hood expert, MR. CHURLY, at least got one, let's see some pics!)

Saw a yearling walk into my clearing yesterday afternoon and thought about it. Saw it's momma come in behind her and waited. Momma got broadside at about 50 yards. Sighted the old crossbow in and pulled the trigger. She jumped and ran. I waited. Heard one of the two of them calling the other about 5 minutes later. Finally got down to look. Arrow was on the ground about 3 feet from where she stood covered in blood. HOWEVER the Grim Reaper head had none of the 3 blades expanded. Looked and looked. Called for help and they looked. Heard the coyotes howling before we left. I'm guessing they were thanking me for dinner.......

Yup...went Sunday am. Got there with plenty o time to get in my stand. Hooked my xbow on the hoist line and threw my pack over my shouder. Up the stixs I went and put my pack on its hook.

To get in and secure to my safety line, I have to lift up the seat and forward bar...step in and squat down...put the seat and bar down then hook up. Right after doing that I hear my pack unzipping where I carry my quiver....yup, they fall to the ground. Ugh! Reverse all the above and down the stixs I go. Get my quiver and back up. Set them in the pack and refasten the zipper locks. Step back in and go through getting camped back into my safety line. Pull my xbow up and hang it on my hook with a bolt.

Finally I turn off my red light and sit....... so I thought! Keep in mind I have sat in this stand several times to make sure I trim out shooting lanes and all is good. I'd say at least 4 times. So...all of.the sudden the dam strap for my seat comes undone and my ass is headed down! I grab onto the stand arm rails and think I'm about to crap in my pants. I stand back up...lift the seat and rails and get that thing strapped back on. I sit very carefully this time and all is good. Thank god. Turn off the blinding led light and try to settle in.

About 9:30 or so I see horns headed my way...i grab my xbow , scoped with a tru-glow red dot and turn it on. We shit! .guess what!!!! Battery is dead! Where's my backup? In the truck! So I'm thinking if he's a shooter and comes in cosler than 15 yards, I'll wing it! Nope....he's a good looking 6pt.and not a shooter on our lease. So I just sit and watch him. Heart never sees me but you can tell her knows something is different today. He looks my way...wags that tail and trots off. I don't think he really busted me because he walked right back in 2 minutes later.

Pretty cool to just sit there in stealth mode and watch this young buck. He left about 10 minutes later and I never saw another deer. However I'm getting many on my cam. 2 decent 8s and 1 10pt. LOTS of does too! I've deleted all photos but here is the 6 Sunday and my stand is right where the pic cuts off. The other is an 8 I'm hoping to see. Ill post the 10 if I get him again....

Still a good day but my back can't take that lock on ( see classifeids) I have an old ladder stand I got from Churly and it's going up.this week. Now to get my ice pack....

TWRA wildlife folks are pleasantly surprised by the opening weekend BEAR harvest.

In Bear Hunt Zone #4, the weekend bear kill there exceeded the entire season bear harvest by 50%. The bear kill in all open counties beat last year's opening weekend by almost 100%.

Shot 2 does saturday evening. 2 weeks ago I mowed down my mix of beans, peas, and egyptian wheat and left a strip standing along the east side of the plot but cut it in a way that funnels the plot down to about 40 yards wide at one end. Planted winter wheat, oats, and daikon raddish. To my astonishment the new seed had sprouted and grown about 6-8" in 2 weeks without a drop of rain. I set up in the funnel Saturday evening. Dealt with off and on rain, and watched the vols go up, about the time FLA scored on that late 4th down I looked up to see deer pulling beans out of the egyptian wheat. The biggest followed the script to a "t" she followed the standing beans down to the end and immediately was broadside at 20 yards when she stepped on my side of the strip. Complete pass through the 10 ring, she bolts off leaving a glowing luminock coated red and I hear her crash accross the creek. The commotion got the attention of the other two, who within minutes were grazing right next to the arrow sticking out of the plot. I picked the bigger of the two and put a double lung shot on her. She slowly walked under my stand and accross the creek and up the bank out of sight. I called for help quick and had both deer located in minutes. Neither ran more than 50 yards. This was my first archery harvest since my heart attack last year and I was tickles to get two does closer on our harvest goal of 12 for the property!

Way to go Churly! I figured with all the time you put in to your deer you would harvest one. I will say, at least your efforts seems to always come with reward. emoWorthy Jmax

my wife's first cousin he is like a son to me. killed a doe this evening being his first bow kill. he made a perfect shot and she went no more that 20 yards and piled up couldn't be more proud.

A good friend of mine, Steve Crain, who I occasionally hunt with has some major surgery coming up in a couple weeks. He is like some of us on here in that he is more upset that he will miss deer season this year more then the fact he has major surgery. emoDoh He will be out of being able to hunt for about six months after his surgery. He told me he was going bow hunting and had to make it happen fast. emoBigsmile Sent me these pictures yesterday from his first weekend on the stand. Looks like an angel may be helping him get his fix for this season. emoThumbsup
