Does anyone know a site to get the recommended mixtures for older motors? Specifically I am looking for my 1990 Johnson 150hp?

My 88 was 50-1. I would make sure that you have the correct spark plugs for the engine. Some plugs burn hotter than others which may help the fouling problem. As I was told a long time ago, smoke is good -- no smoke is bad.

Get some carb cleaner and use it. The smoke may be trying to tell you that you have too much carb build up. When I blew my 200 they said they believed that was the cause. A little smoke like is being said is not a problem. A lot of smoke may be a sign of a big one coming if not addressed. Maybe Tom or one of the motor guys on here might want to chime in? emoScratch Jmax

The proper fuel mixture for any two stroke made after 1964 would be 50:1 Any thing before would be 24:1 on most. On your motor I would get me some sea foam and do a good decarb and reinstall a new set of plugs and mix at 50:1

If the smoke is blue then it is most likely oil burn off but if its white that is a sign of water burning off.

I had my oil injection disconnected and now mix my oil manually. For Me, I buy 12 gallons at a time. I add 1 quart of oiland then pump the 12 gallons of gas. That will give you a ratio of 48 to 1. That's just a tad richer than 50 to1 but close enough.</p>

If you will use a synthetic blend, will have less smoke & better performance. A bit more $, has better lube qualities, leaves less carbon deposits. Check synthetic oils on web site. Best way to mix is 1 qt to 12 gallon or 1 pint to 6 gal, this will give you correct ratio for your mix.

Get you a gal portable tank and a gal of fuel. Mix with proper amount of oil and add 1/2 can of sea foam. Run the engine on muffs and get it warm, Then take all the plugs out and fill each cylinder with seafoam and let set for an hour. Oh replace plugs after adding seafoam. Let it set for anout an hour or two. I have let it soak for 10 hours this will soften the carbon up so it will blow out the exhause port with out burning all of it in the chamber. Take it to the river or lake and run it on that gal of fuel , run it at wot until the gal is gone. Hook back to your main tank and take home and take plugs out and clean them. This will decarb it. After that just keep sea foam added to you fuel and it will stay clean.
