Not to just start another oil thread but today I talked to my old yamaha mech. in florida who use to service my two previous boats. He is a good friend of mine. I asked him several questions and he has worked on a ton of boats in the tampa area and he has worked on yamaha motors for years. The first thing I asked him was about running the reccomended oil while a motor was under warrenty. My dealer were I just purchased my new boat told me to only run yamalube oil. According to Jeff as long as the oil is nmma and tcw3 it does not void warrenty at all. Also all reccomended service including the first 10, or 20 hours can be done on your own, keep the reciepts. I recently posted my thread about a friend who blew his motor and the blame according to his mech was gelling of the oil because he mixed the oils and let them sit. His response was If you knew how many people mix 2 cycle oil you wouldnt believe it. He said no way would this be possible, he said moisture in fuel and oil is usually the cause not mixing of the oils. He went on to say that a oil cannot have a tc3 or nmma label if it will not mix with others. Its like running hess or amco gas in your car they will mix. I also asked him what oil he reccomended I run in my new Vmax. His response was one with a tc3 of nmma label they all work fine. However he said for the price pennzoil full sythetic is the best deal out there. He claims the proof is in work he has done on motors that have run this oil. Fouls plugs alot less and a cleaner burn, and carbon build up is minimal. I asked about walmart ST oil and he told me a ton of captains he knows run that stuff in the gulf with big outboards and dont have a problem at all. THey are running 5 trips a week in harsh conditions. Hope this helps some that had questions.
