I haven't crappie fished since July 29th and I was needing to go try to get a pulse on the crappie. Only fished 2 hours as planned. I caught 3 times as many crappie today as I caught yesterday at Normandy. That would only be 3 crappie and 2 of them were only about 8-9" long. The place that I really wanted to fish had a fisherman sitting on it early this morning and he was bass fishing. Wasn't bothering the crappie but was sitting right smack dab in the top of the submerged tree that I knew crappie should be on.

So I ran to Woltever/Savannah creek and fished docks. Pretty foggy this AM so I had to run slow. I fished a couple of docks in Savannah and caught the 2 short fish. No keepers there. Decided to go to Island Cove and try a dock there that is good at times. Wind had picked up pretty hard and no fish on that dock.

Finally ran back to the original place that I wanted to fish and it was exposed to the wind and hard waves, but I did manage to catch 1 keeper by easing over the top of the tree (10 feet of water over it) and dropping the jig straight down. The fish hit it immediately. So I decided to go home for breakfast.

This is a 'serious' report!emoBigsmile emoGeezer

At first I thought, "What the..." but on second thought, I'd like to say, "Thanks for leaving some for the rest of us." emoParty

Sounded like fun searching DK. Sometimes I have more fun searching than I do catching. It's pretty early in my mind to start catching bunches of crappies. I think that most of them are still roaming the main lake after shad balls but I may be wrong. Keep us posted.

HM, this was a short morning to try to get my brain re-calibrated to crappie way of thinking. I have been catfishing for so long now and that doesn't take much effort, but crappie are a different animal. I've got to try to find some fish for you guys who are wanting to go with me sometime. I feel bad if I take someone fishing and can't catch any crappie.

Polo, I do like the search just as much if not more than the catching and that's no fooling. The trouble is, I get so many ideas to try and not enough time to try them all. I talked to one gentleman at the ramp this morning and he reported that they are beginning to catch a few crappie in 10-12 feet. It won't be long until it will be hot fishing for them again.

I know what you mean DK, mind going wild and only so much time to try things. I have the same problemo.
