I am looking at buying a Procraft with a 2002 Mercury 150 Xr6 can anyone tell me about this motor. I would do a compression check and go over it good before buying. Just trying to see if overall they are a good motor. Thanks
I have a 95 150 XR6 and the only thing that I have had go out was the tilt and trim in 1998. I fish almost every weekend year round. I service it every spring, water pump impeller, gear lube, plugs. It has been the best motor that I have seen.
Great motor and great boat. I had the exact same setup for years and never had a problem. Those boats are some of the fastest, best riding boats out there for a 18,5 ft boat.
That is the exact motor I am running and they are great engines with one exception. Take the oil injection off of it as soon as you can and you should run for a long time. It has a sensor in the reservoir tank at the top of the motor and by the time it beeps it is usually too late. Cost about an hours labor at the shop to have it removed. Plugs are cheaper than pistons.
I had a 2001 xr6 carb motor. my big #1 complaint was that it vapor locked bad in warm weather. changed fuel lines, primer bulb and insulated what fuel line I could under the cowel and it still done it. but I finally solved the problem with a 175 Pro XS.
