my friend has a 225 evinrude fitch that has a clyinder down anyone know a mechanic that is good and trustworthy it is a 2002 model and wrenchin says he cannot work on this model looking for someone thanks

I doubt if Bruce will touch it either.

Didn't say I couldn't, it was wouldn't! LOL!!!!!

The fitch are hard to find anyone that will build them and stand behind it because they are SO TOUCHY and can result in having to build it 2 or 3 times. The dealership that looked at it and found it was blown wouldn't rebuild it. They wanted to put a reman power head on it. Have heard horror stories on these and the Opti-maxes.

A friend of mine took his to Nickol's and 2 weeks later they hadn't even moved it. Then 3 weeks later they call him with it fixed, he gets there and they haven't toughed it. I wouldn't consider them.

WOW. I took him a motor to have rebuit this past fall and they had it done in a week and a half. I was very happy. Did your frind take it to Nichols marine in red bank or Pauls place in the soddy ind park. I took mine to Paul.

Keith Matthews up 24 around Nickajack. He's always worked on my stuff, very fair and backs everything he does. 423-432-3128

Guys you are missing wrench's point. There are alot of techs capable of doing the job but none will stand behind the rebuilt. I have rebuilt many OMC engine and I wouldn't touch a Fitch. That was the worst designed engines in OMC's history and if you will pick a word that rhymes with Fitch you will find one that describes that engine to a T

Precisely!!! emoToast emoToast emoToast

My uncle Paul Graham has been working on them for 40+ years and will not touch a fitch. He can build you a 300HP carbureted engine all day long and is very capable, but won't touch one.

SS810,

You need to get your story straight. I own Nichols Outboard Engineering in the back of the Soddy Daisy Industrial Park. We DO NOT work on engines we only do total rebuilds and machine work on outboard motors. So before you start telling everyone about your friends bad experience please be sure to know the whole story and where he actually took his boat!

I agree! People aren't even involve in something and don't have the whole story. I remember a instance where someone was complaining to me about the price of their uncles boat being repaired and how much it was costing. Then I saw the invoice and it was a really a GOOD price and they have actually cut him a break. Because he didn't know what all they had actually been done he bad mouthed them. Do a good dead and they tell 1 person, do a something wrong (or they think you have) and they tell everyone what a bad ordeal they had. Just the nature of the beast. JMO....
