AlvinC and I hit the Riverpark at 2PM today to see if the spots were doing anything after the cold snap. The first two banks we tried netted a white bass and a yellow stripe. Not a good sign. At 3:30 we went to the bank were we caught a bunch of small fish last week. Yep they are still there. We ended up boating 33 bass (31 spots, 1 largemouth, and 1 smallie) in 4 hours. Not bad. All fish but 1 came on small cranks within 3 feet of the bank. Most fish were very shallow in 3 feet of water or less. The one fish that did not come on cranks I caught on a small Sammy. Yep the first topwater fish of the year. All fish were small with the smallie being close to 15 inches being the largest fish of the day but boy were they fun. We also lost about 5 or so more fish.
The cranks we were using were a white Strike King and a chartuse Luckycraft wtih both catching about the same number of fish (I bought the LC yesterday at Chattanooga Fish N Fun for $15, so that is about $1 a fish today). We tried tubes, pig n jigs, worms, and jigging spoons with no takers. Cranks were the only thing the fish wanted. The fish were on an east bank on rip rap. Water temp was 56 or so.
