Blake and I hit the lake about 3:30 this afternoon. We went to a slough that had produced for us last week. We caught a few small fish and lost a decent one, the wind was blowing out of the slough and the fish just were not there like they were last week. Water temps were 57 to 58 degrees in the shallow areas.
We met up with another member of our bass club about 5:30, he had planned to fish the same slough that we were fishing. After talking, he went up river and we went down river (from Soddy Creek). We did not have much luck, one lost rattle trap when a 2-3 lb LM hit 3 foot from the boat. Our buddy called Blake and sent him a picture of a 3 1/2 lb SM that he caught on his third cast. He called back about 15 minutes later and told us to come up river, the fish were in the area he was fishing.
We went upriver and Blake caught a 3 lb 3 oz LM on his first cast, we ended up catching several small bass. Water was less than 2 feet deep, wind was blowing into this slough. About 6:40, I had a decent fish on, when Blake told me to get the net he had a large fish on. It was a very fat LM, just looking at it our buddy estimated 7 1/4, but it weighed 5 lb 13 oz on the X-Tool. It was full of roe and very healthy.emoParty
Our buddy came down for a photo and then moved back to the point leading into the slough. About 15 minutes later we heard him hollering. He had caught another SM, this one weighed 4 lb 8 oz and was full of roe as well. He lost another large LM before it was time to call it a day.
The cell phone photos are not real good, I have a disposable camera to process today. I will try to post the pictures later. All fish were caught on rattle trap type baits, baby minus 1's in shallow water or points leading to shallow water.
