BassmanIU and I hit the Riverpark this morning around 8 and headed straight down to where I lost the big fish on Sunday. After catching a few small ones we finally got to the exact spot. That is when it happened, again. This time I got some hooks into the huge fish and BassmanIU got a good look at it as well. The water was clear enough I got to see my torpedo leave the fish's mouth and retrun to the surface. The largemouth was at least 5lbs, maybe 6. I am just glad I got another go at it even though it got away.
We after that we decided to move across the river to where AlvinC and I have been catching a lot of little fish. All I can say is good move. The topwater frenzy commenced and we would have 2-3 fish a time trying to eat out topwater. We missed probably 3 for every 1 we boated. Unreal.
About an hour later we decided to do what we had planned the trip around, shiner fishiing. We rode down to some barge tie offs and on the second tie off we boated 6 spots. At one time I have about 10 spots trying to eat my large shiner at one time!!!! After that the shiner fishing basially stoped as the water surface was covered with pollen and blooms from trees which made fishing with shiners free line impossible. BassmanIU did manage to hook a nice crappie under a barge but it got off.
With the shiner fishing pretty much a bust we started throwing pig n jigs. Immediatly we started boating one fish after another with the best being a very nice 2.5 lb spot. BassmanIU got his first of many fish today on a pig n jig and he said now he is hooked. We decided to ride back to where we got the fish on topwater earlier so he could catch some more fish on pig n jig and we flat tore them up. We boated 3 while I was on the phone with AlvinC giving him an updated.
Our final count was 50 bass in the boat with no telling how many we missed or lost in only 4.5 hours of fishing. Today easily match my best day numbers wise every for bass. I am just glad I had a witness.
Most fish were caught on a small Sammy and black/blue pig n jigs. All fish were within 5 feet or so of the bank.
Now its time for lunch. Going to Racoon this evening so I gotta get my strength up. emoCool
My camera messed up so BassmanIU will have to post the pictures.
