D.Troit (aka Dad) and I fished the Mud Creek area of Guntersville on Friday. We arrived at the ramp about 7:00 a.m. only to find the parking lot just about full. I thought for a minute I had slept through Friday. We start out fishing lipless crankbaits in 4 ft of water with no bites. Dad switched to one of his finesse baits and started catching short fish. By noon he had caught 6 short fish and I had 2 short fish but I was determined the fish were going to bite a lipless crankbait. Shortly after noon, Dad boated 2 solid keepers on back to back casts and then caught 3 more short fish before I could tie on a finesse bait. We fished back out of the cove we were in and I threw beside a stump on the point where I caught the best fish of the day. The fish would have weighed between 5.5 lbs. to 6 lbs. We then realized that the fish were on the inside points of the bays. Also, when we were getting ready to leave, I noticed there appeared to be a strong current in the creek. We managed to catch about 35 bass total for the day, 7 of which were keepers (4 – 2 lbs, 2 - 3lbs 1 - 5.5+ lbs) and the rest were short fish.
I have to thank God for allowing me and Dad the opportunity to fish on Friday. My Mom passed away back in August and it has been tough on my family. Although we didn’t catch the big stringers that have been reported, we still had a great day.
