This morning Jmax and I decided to hit the Riverpark in search of spaaaats. Jmax had never fished the Chick tailwaters so I thought I would take him down to catch a few. We started off at 7:30 throwing topwater with a few takers. No big fish but enougth action to keep you interested. We then moved to my little fish bank and started throwing pig n jigs. The fish were typical of the last few weeks, shallow and late starters. We stopped fishing around 12:30 and probably caugth twice as many fish after 10AM than before. From 11:30 to 11:40 we boated 10 bass. 1 per minute. We ended the day with 70 bass in the boat with the largest being around 2lbs. Jmax lost what we think was a good fish under the boat. 70 bass in 4.5 hours of fishing is not bad.

Fish were mostly caught on black/blue pig n jigs with some coming on Sammy/Spook, tube, and grub. Almost all fish were caugth within 5 feet of the bank.

Oh, I did catch a 7lb drum but my camera messed up so no picture. It was the thinnest drum I have ever seen. Not sure if it was sick or just spawned.

Thanks for riding with me today Jmax, it was a blast!

Thanks for the invite. I have to admit that was a lot of fun to catch that many.emoWorthy I have not caught that many this year in one trip. That is a lot of spaats! Weird how the two lake areas are so different.emoScratch If we had done that on the Chick we would have had a lot less but a bigger average per fish. It was fun thou and I will be back. I wished I could have seen the one that went under the boat. I know it by far was my biggest one on today but it may have been another drum. I always say it is the ones that get away that makes you want to go back the most.emoBigsmile I needed practise with a jig and pig, I just don't do that much. Whiskers has that down to an art. Thanks again, emoThumbsup Jmax

By the way gang, when he says we caught 70, he really means we caught 70. He counted every one of them. That is not an estimate or appoximate. He said at 11:30 we would leave when we hit 60, we had 50. Well, ten minutes later we had 60.emoEek So he said that was too fast so lets make it 70. So...that was where we stopped and left.

4.5 x 60 = 270 270 divided by 70 = 3.85 minutes between fish

Too bad it didn't happen like that .. would have made for a fast day! But sounds like you all had a good time. (rats) about the camera. I just adore pictures.

:)

Nice report! MrWhiskers has still got me hooked on the jig/pig. I just can't put it down. I'm gonna try the spotstickers for the first time this weekend and I'm sure I'll be hooked on those too.

I saw you from the Interstate as I went to teach my seminar in Tiftonia.  I figured you would tear'em up.</p>

I get hung up in counting. I guess it is the engineer in me coming out. Keeping count keeps me honest and allows me to judge one outing vs another. It is also a lot of fun to see how many you can get. The 70 were bass put in the boat. We probably lost another 10 or so on the way to the boat. The spots are up and they have the banks infested right now. Can't wait for good weather to get here so maybe the larger females will move up.
