After sitting for two and a half hours this morning and hearing nothing gobble from the roost or otheriwse, we decided to check out a couple of fields on our way out and saw this one strutting in the field edge at 9:35. Crawled to a tree just over a little rise on the edge of a logging road, with my buddy calling about 30 yards behind me. The tom cut our calls off three times with gobbles and then crested the hill 25 yard in front of me at full strut, his head pure white. Watched him spit and drum in the road until I pulled the trigger at twenty yards. What a show! From the time we first saw him until he was down was five minutes or less. This mountain bird weighed 19.5 lbs, and had a 10.25 inch beard with 7/8 spurs.
