Had a wonderful day today with Randy Johnson and his Dad from Englewood, TN. I'm sorry, the only name I remember for Dad is "Mr. Johnson." We loaded 'em up with about a 100 lbs. of eating-sized catfish for the freezer. Then we went looking for "big fish." The sun and "no breeze" was about to bake us off the water, that is until Randy got bit... and bit hard! Many heart-pounding minutes later we had a 47 lb. blue flopping in the bottom of the boat. After taking pictures (which ain't easy with fish that size)... and letting the adrenalin wear off, Randy and his Dad tagged a 20 lb. fish each. Add in one more 14 lb. squirt, and they released 4 fish that totaled 101 lbs. Not a bad day on the Tennessee River.

That is a great day in anyone's book I would expect. I came over the dam earlier and wondered if you were out there rsimms. I was thinking that today would be a little slow with only 8,000CFS all day. Is that ammount of flow usually good or bad for you? Just curious.

It is lower flow than I prefer, but these days I'll take whatever TVA gives me. I prefer 15 - 25,000 cfs. For big fish I had to do some "trolling," easing gently long with trolling motor to cover more water. I normally don't like to do that but it worked OK today. On the other hand, took some fellows out Thursday evening with all four generators cranked... 44,000 cfs. It doesn't bother the fish, they're there and eating. It just makes it really hard to fish effectively.

Awesome fish RSimms and a great trophy for your client - Congratulations are in order just to land something that huge! How deep did he catch it?

Not deep at all... circle hook was right in the corner of its mouth. emoLaugh 50 feet... 1 pm... last Monday big fish (36 lbs.) was at high Noon in 40 feet. Early morning, late evening bite is nice... but they'll eat anytime if you put a bait on their nose.

simms , you have got to let me in on your secret, to catching big fish.
The secret is the Three P's .... Position, Presentation and Patience. emoGeezer Of course that's true for almost any kind of fishing.

It's like my co-worker said, if bubba is sitting on the couch and you put a hamburger in front on him, he will eat it. I think blue cats are that way.

Now, if I can just find that couch!
