Well,
Ranger350V had to work today, so I headed out of Mud Creek in Dayton pretty early this morning. Today was pretty fun. It got hot quick and then out came the jet-skiiers. I am going again Mon. morning and they will probably be even thicker then.
Caught fish today on: Wave Worms Tiki Toad, Strike King 3X Craws (Black/ blue flake), Wave Worms Tiki Lizard (Pumpkin/ blue flake), & a Rapala DT-4 (Shad [06]), Zoom Fluke (Smoke Shad) Carolina-rigged.

Started out throwing the Tiki Toad over so grass that had already reached the top. Caught a whopping 2 keepers in an hour. I continued on down the bank and started pitching the 3X Craw under and around docks. First pitch in between two boards and my line starts running sideways hard...WHAM!! and I swing the first keeper of the morning on board.
For those of you who have never tried it, it is pretty hard to balance the camera on the front seat, set it on auto, and come out with a pic this good. It suprised me!

Continued along the docks with no luck. About 10:00AM I moved to some underwater sructure on the edge of the river. I was throwing the Tiki Lizard and DT-4 . After I few casts, I threw beside a particularly nice-looking brush pile that was home to keeper #2-all 15 1/4" of him!! (no pic necessary)
After this fish I came up with an idea. Why not toss the Carolina rig out the back of the boat and let it skip off the bottom while I troll?? After no firther luck on the crank or lizard, I was about to pick up and move when I hear something behind me. I look back and my rod that has trolling is bent over pretty good. I sat my other rod down and calmly (yeah right!!) grabbed this one as I promptly set the hook. The biggest fish of the day and keeper #3 was now mine. My Berkley scales said 3.2 something lbs. Not too shabby!! (Unfortunately the camera shot wasn't near as succesful this time. I ended up only getting my legs.
It was now getting hotter with more recreational activity and I was getting tireder. (is that even a word?? :) ) I ended up catching about a 5 lb. cat on the Rapala DT-4 he prolly would have gone about 6 lbs.

The more I get out there, the more I learn. Each time I go I learn something new. While I may not have loaded the boat today, I still enjoyed the time out there. I couldn't find any solid patterns to help you guys out, but maybe what I have posted will help.

Enjoy!

Nice self-portrait! They are tough. I well remember one day last year when I caught my biggest catfish to date. I tried the self-portrait thing and it wasn't working at all. It was a cold December day and off in the distance I spied one other boat. It turned out it was Drumking although we didn't know each other at the time. I interrupted his fishing and asked him to take my picture, which of course he was more than happy to do. So if anybody sees me on the water and wants me to take their picture, just ask. I need to "pass it on." Oh, by the way, my thumbnail pic "The Masked Striperman," is a self-portrait. Drumking wasn't around that day. emoBigsmile

Good report Frazier! And a nice pic to boot. Thanks for the indepth report. Every time you get out there is always something to learn. When you get to where you never get excited and aren't learning anything then it is time to give it up. I don't think anyone would have enough knowledge to ever give up!!emoLaugh I have been known to want to give up from the frustration factor tho!

Nice looking fish! Your idea about trolling a lure behind you is a good one. I read an article a few weeks ago about a guy that always takes shiners with him while he fishes and drags one behind the boat. He said that often he caught more on that than he did on the lures he was throwing. By the way, you have a natural ability to write and make it interesting; good work!

Thanks for the report. Hey, If I learn at least one thing while Im out, I call that a good day. emoCool Now that you brought up that idea about dragging a carolina rig behind the boat, that brings a memory up. I believe I read somewhere in a magazine talking about this idea. I never really thought much of it but looks like I need to give it a try.

USED TO DRAG A MINNER BEHIND THE BOAT LIKE THAT.....COST ME A NICE ROD AND REEL WHEN A 3 # SMALLIE DECIDE TO EAT MY MINNER...JUMPED 4-5 TIMES TRYING TO SPIT IT OUT...PUT YOU A BUNGEE CORD OR SOMETHING AROUND THE ROD AND HOPE IT DON`T BREAK SOMETHING !!
